The steps of the Supreme Court will be flooded on Tuesday with students, borrowers, and advocates as President Joe Biden's student-loan forgiveness plan enters the chamber.

The nation's highest court is hearing arguments on the two conservative-backed lawsuits that paused Biden's plan to cancel up to $20,000 in student debt for federal borrowers making under $125,000 a year.

Just one month after Biden launched the online application to apply for relief — during which 26 million borrowers submitted forms — the lawsuits paused the implementation of the plan. Now, the nation's highest court will decide whether the plan can progress, or should be struck down.

Student-loan forgiveness has long been a partisan issue. Even before Biden's announcement, Republican lawmakers and conservative groups blasted relief as costly, unfair, and illegal, but Democratic lawmakers pushed for the president to go as big as possible with relief — alongside borrower advocates
nd those advocates are making their voices heard. On Tuesday, a coalition of advocacy groups including the Student Borrower Protection Center, Student Debt Crisis Center, We, The 45 Million, Rise, and the NAACP are participating in the People's Rally for Student Debt Cancellation to urge the Supreme Court to uphold student-debt relief, and according to the NAACP, 500 to 1,000 students are attending.

"Education is supposed to be the key to financial freedom, not the barrier. Today, over 500 students have gathered on the steps of the Supreme Court to fight back against any attempt to restrict such freedom. Oral arguments may be underway, but one thing is clear - failure is not an option," Wisdom Cole, NAACP National Director of Youth & College, said in a statement.

"Our government must relieve borrowers of the crushing weight of student debt which will keep an entire generation from reaching their full potential," he continued. "The economic mobility of over 40 million Americans is dependent on the survival of this program, and the NAACP will continue to do everything in our power to ensure that their voices are heard, and their stories are known."

Some groups even camped out overnight to make sure they can get a seat in the court. Melissa Byrne, executive director of We The 45 Million, a campaign of borrowers working to win student-debt cancellation, previously told Insider that she "wanted to make sure that the justices look into the eyes of borrowers while they're doing the hearing," adding that "our actions will show that the people with debt are just regular people from around the country."
Democrats want to institute some much needed changes and the GOP resist any notion of change. They've known the reform has been a hot topic for awhile and they claim by blocking the relief it will force us to think about the reform instead.

Then there's that fhaggot Thomas saying minorities and the LGBTQ community that they're next. They don't GAF about future generations.


A reminder too, that Congress must fix the crisis. Not Biden. They control interest rates. They can reform unreasonable loan structures. Biden can offer band aids but the wounds are larger than him. To fix the issue you need Congressmen who actually care about the necessity of higher education for our future rather than old men with an obsessive hatred for Millenials.

Your last paragraph is the only thing you said that's correct and is the reason the case is in front of the supreme court. The president does not have the authority to make executive orders regarding that kind of money. Budgetary decisions have to go through Congress, period.

Also, these people are simply selfish. They have no plan regarding the debt of future students and no care for the people before them who paid their student loans. It's not about changing anything, it's about free stuff

So anyway, Democrats that overrun the universities are already increasing the upcoming year's tuition by a couple thousand dollars at every university. You don't want every university to fire the 500 extra administration staff micromanaging student life that they hired over the last few years so they can manage costs, do you? You want a science building from the 1980s still standing? Ugh, it needs to look like Google buildings, with glass made from Moroccan sand in every city. Anything less is fascism I tell you. Fascist!!! You think they should have only 3 sushi bars on campus and gyms only as good as your gym? Uggh, you're such a troglodyte. Just one rock climbing wall in the gyms, just 5 koi ponds? Ground beef in the cafeteria instead of kobe beef infused Taco Tuesdays? Only one floor of the library dedicated to excluding white people? Playing football in a 60,000 capacity stadium instead of tearing it down and replaced with a 80,000 capacity and beer taps that only sell local IPAs? How dare you!!

Just got my approval notification email yesterday my federal loans are set to be wiped out, assuming it goes through. I would even be eligible for a refund on what I've already paid, which would more than cover the remaining smaller private student loans.

1. You don't need to go to college to get a good job or make decent money. There are other venues such as becoming a small business owner and skilled trades.

2. 100% false if you don't want to be in a career that has you sit on your ass in an office 40+ hours per week.

Not everyone is cut out to work in trades. I wouldn't expect a soft-handed fecalpheliac with no work ethic to understand that. People might actually respect you if you knew how to get some dirt under your fingernails instead of your own excrement.

THE POST-9/11 GI BILL

This program is the most widely used GI Bill option. It provides up to full college tuition for public and in-state schools, and more than $25,000 per year at private or foreign schools, as well as money for housing and books.

Who says you have to go to some university and rack up hundreds of thousands in debt?

Especially when you major in something useless?

Had an Ex from high-school who went to a university on a partial loan, and majored in Art History, she then worked at McDonald's till she was like 27-28 and finally just ended up teaching Art at the high school we went to.......

Another girl who babysat my co-worker's kids majored in script writing, she ended up being a dog walker because her parents owned the business.....

Seriously, the only way I could possibly see any form of student loan forgiveness be remotely acceptable is to directly hold the universities accountable for growing so fat, misappropriating funds towards non-educational expenditures (e.g., "but we need a new patch of grass to throw a ball!"), and being complicit in practices that ensure rising costs for students (e.g. propping up the textbook industry, which has shifted to remove secondhand sales and prevent students from even getting that back).

Maybe independent financial institutions that were being opportunistic, but otherwise they can all get fukked at this rate. Go complain to the overpriced colleges with their overpaid professors, deans, and coaches and bitch to them why they can't pay off the loantheytook just to major in genders studies. US taxpayers didn't hold a gun to their heads, and they're the ones who keep getting screwed time and time again as the federal government finds a new money laundering scheme or boondoggle to pour money into over Americans.
