I legit have no idea what people mean when they say this. Do they just cold or warm call all day? I don’t even know if warm calling is a thing tbh. Misc salesmen explain yourselves.

You just meet with people
For example tmw I’m going to BC to meet clients and prospects for a week … a bunch of lunches, a few dinners, 2 presentations and then some quick 15 min coffee and office meetings
Renting a box at a Canucks game then I’m taking some of our best clients to Whistler on a bus I rented

Depends on which kind of sales. In enterprise sales you're the representative of your company and the one who takes ownership of the customer relationship. It's important for a customer to have that direct contact and somebody who feels responsible, because most other departments will just duck away when sht is not going right. In the end the sales team are the only people really giving a fukk because they're the ones who's salery will be impacted if the customer leaves.

I have always asked this question as well. Seems like a job that is quite redundant and not needed.
"Sales."
It should be called "schmoozing" or "catering".

Basically you're the liason between the customer/client and the main company. This can sometimes mean taking orders, but it can also mean keeping strong relationships, showing them new products and also trying to generate new business within whatever territory you have by taking business away from your competitors. Sometimes salespeople are called "account managers" for that reason.

A brah on my flag football team was in sales for an internet site. His job was cold calling all day, srs. Even prospects he'd already called 3x before, and had notes on their file saying they'd rejected his place 3x before, he'd call a 4th time.

For example, I did photocopier sales back in the day for Xerox and we had to know specs and things like how they compared to other units the other guys were offering.

Getting drunk a lot is one of the main things.
"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

maybe im missing the intricacies but how often does a "salesman" take someone with 0 interest and suddenly reverse that and have them interested?
they either have a need or they don't
similarly, if they're already a customer. they either need your product or they don't
maybe if you could find a need you didn't know existed, but even still.. that customer would have to be looking for it.

I'm not in sales but my retired father was. He viewed it largely as solving problems for customers. He also would entertain clients. Dad could have been a stand up comic if he hadn't been in sales.

So you gotta maintain the relationship and stay on top of guys so when they’re ready to pull the trigger you’re their go to
For my industry it typically takes 6-12 months to close a deal

It all depends. I work in sales and don't meet with people or do cold calling. We have a stream of requests flowing in and we simply gauge those requests for money making opportunities and prioritize accordingly. It's a cakewalk.
Your schtick sucks and it screams insecurity.

BUT regarding your "meeting". Does it really influence anything when you go out for drinks and take them to a Canucks game? Suddenly, they'll switch their interest if they weren't interested to interested solely because of that?
I get it you're staying in their face and maintaining but kinda seems like a waste of money.. but fun for you

I think all the fluff like sports games, fancy dinners, lunches, golf etc is pointless and you could do the same job by going back and forth via email
But these guys want to be wined and dined, other companies are doing it and so you have to play the game or get left out
I think the whole concept is retarded tho - brb flying to BC tmw and being put up in hotels for a week on the companies dime when I could have easily just sent a few emails on the product lmao, kill me
