Military tradie sets fire to NUCLEAR SUBMARINE in attempt to leave work early

Causing $700M in damages. JFL.

That urge to get home and beat your wife and drink Keystone Light tho.
KITTERY, Maine (AP) — The Navy said farewell Friday to the USS Miami, the nuclear-powered submarine whose service was cut short when a shipyard employee trying to get out of work set it on fire, causing $700 million in damage.

...

The Los Angeles-class submarine was damaged at the hands of a shipyard worker who set a fire in May 2012 while the submarine was undergoing a 20-month overhaul.

Seeking an excuse to leave work early, Casey James Fury set fire to a box of rags on a bunk, and the blaze quickly spread throughout the forward compartments. Fury pleaded guilty and is serving a 17-year sentence in federal prison.
Ultimately...not too much learning happened that day. A little learning, perhaps. But not too much learning.

It is the current year.

Do you guys think he got a verbal, or did they go right to the written on this one?

I know they don’t want to create a “toxic environment”.

Damn 17 years in prison because he couldn’t hold his **** together for a few hours. And to make matters worse in federal prison you have to sever at least 80% of the sentence-no exceptions.

Damn he was also ordered to $400m in restitution.

He tried to have his sentences reduced. Denied—>https://casetext.com/case/united-states-v-fury-3

He also got out of paying rent for 17 years. Rentards on suicide watch.

Btw, this guy did the same thing but somehow they found him not guilty. This one was 20 minutes from my house but I could smell it from home for a couple days.

700m is nothing to the US. They’ll splash that in a day on useless wars and murdering children in Afghanistan and Iraq.

17 years is a good sentence, they are very lucky nobody died
Sounds like this was planned in order get to a new sub. This crew probably got jelly of the new subs the other crew is getting lmao. Besides, whats a few billion dollar to congress.

The only time a sub catches on fire is from actual warfare. These subs are designed with many checks and balances so this doesn't happen by accident(trust me bro)

This is why I always get a chuckle when I hear the misc saying Americans should have compulsory military service. This dude volunteered to serve, and was already ready to burn the place down. Imagine a bunch of 18 year olds that just want to play video games forced to "serve time" in the military? It would be a chit-show of epic proportions.

No, other sub(s) just had their decommissioning delayed. "Ordering" a new submarine is a 10+ year process until it's ready for deployment.

And of course this fire didn't happen "by accident". This article is literally about the man sentenced to 17 years in prison for his intentional arson and destruction.

It's not Keystone Light, brah. It's Busch Light those kinda guys drink.

Also, the story is from 2012? Dude was sentenced to 17 years in prison? Doesn't that mean he'll be out in like 5 or 6 years from now?

Jeez.

So in his lifetime before he destroyed that levy causing that insane flood in 1993, that dude had already burned down a achool, burned down a garage, and committed several small-time burglaries. Aaaand, he worked at Burger King in between a brief stint of freedom between his 7-year setence for arson and the 20 - life sentence for the 1993 destroyed levy.

Dude caused absolutely obscene amounts of damage worth countless times more than his life ever was, yet he's still rotting in prison watching cable TV and eating canteen junk food on taxpayer dime. And he managed to land a wife in between the prison stints. This dude was a complete nut case and still managed to accomplish landing a wife, something over half the misc will never come close to succeeding at.
