Bioshock Infinite broke my trust in game reviews and I've never trusted them since

I was flipping through my news feed today when this article was suggested:

https://www.gamesradar.com/a-decade-...acclaimed-fps/

It told me what I had already known from day one of the Bioshock Infinite release- this game is pure garbage.

It seemed like every website was willing to over look the half baked story, garbage call-of-duty-wannabe gameplay and uninspired level design.

This game, in my opinion, was the turning point where studios owned game review sites through advertising dollars and most of the woke garbage we see today began creeping into the game space.

Can you guys name a more egregious example of reviewers sucking off a garbage game?

So that article just cherrypicks a few woke zoomer reviews reeeing about something something racism. When the game released we weren't in clownworld. It's also an 8.6 based on 9730 player reviews:

https://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/bioshock-infinite

Uninspired level design wut? Find me one game that came out before it which had anything remotely similar to Infinite's level design. Just sounds like zoomers back at it again with their recreational outrage

Hmm, I never read a single game review on Infinite and I thought it was a great game too. I didn’t play the previous games either, so I had no expectations.

I will say, the game starts off slow. I stopped playing it after an hour, then came back to it a few weeks later. Once I developed a build and the basics of combat, I enjoyed it quite a bit at that point.

I might be in the minority. Maybe average or just above personally for me. I thought it was no where near good as the previous ones set in Rapture which i would rate 7-8.

Call of Duty. This Bioshock game tried to be Call of Duty. There was a clear, linear path through each level with a lot less exploration compared to the previous titles. The convenient crates littered throughout the levels to hide behind, the implementation of the damage threshold, removing the multiple gun arsenal and replacing it with a 2 gun system? This is call of duty in the clouds. Compared to the previous 2 titles it felt like a tired corridor shooter with endless waves of generic enemies just like a Call of Duty campaign. It was a relentless chore clearing rooms with garbage guns and needing your helper to portal out of nowhere to reload you. I could hardly wait for the game to end.

Maybe this is why I hated it so much. I held the first 2 in such high regard and all the things that made the first 2 games great were stripped out of it or dumbed down. The let down on this one was brutal.

Is this a roll bread like those 'Jon Jones is overrated' ones we're seeing, lol?

Bioshock Infinite was fun as hell.

I don't tend to read game reviews though.

There was a fairly liberal sprinkling of "white man bad" throughout the game:

That game released in 2013, so the timeline checks out. That was right around when video games journalism completely went to hell, and it never recovered.

It was a great game to me personally, loved Elizabeth as a character.

It was a great game, but a horrible bioshock game since after the initial area the game just dropped all the atmosphere/lore/tension to go straight call of duty mode.

Yea I preferred the horror atmosphere that Rapture had. It really sucked me in to the story and the world.

It's hard to follow Bioshock which is one of the best games of all time.

Replaying then years later Bioshock 2 is much better than Infinite, but infinite was a solid attempt to make a trilogy out of a game that didn't need any sequels.

Days Gone had pretty lukewarm/bad reviews and I enjoyed every minute of it srs

Sure it was a bit repetitive and the story was predictable but I still liked it

Prey (2017) had low reception but it was one of the best games I've ever played in my life, it's inspired by systemshock and is better than bioshock infinite imo

Infinite was not very good and a massive step down from bioshock 1 and 2 (which is underrated)

Bioshock 2 did the save the girl storyline better and columbia was not as good a setting as rapture.

I had a blast with Infinite, visually spectacular with an intriguing storyline and solid combat. It was just very different to Bioshock in terms of atmosphere and pace.

I need to play 2 again. I purchase the re-released trilogy for the XOne but just played one and Inf. Playing as a Daddy was pretty cool.

Mind blowing to me because Infinite probably had one of the dumbest convoluted endings I ever played. Really soured the already mediocre experience.

BioShock Infinite did SUCK.

What a let down compared to the first 2. I didn’t realize it’d gotten good reviews early. I remember waiting to play it nearly a year after release due to not having time but was so excited that whole time only to say “wtf was that” after I finished.

Agree with both points. Days gone was really good imo and Prey is a very underrated game that a lot of people have never played.

I thought it was average and pretty forgettable. To me Rapture is Bioshock and not some sky city.

What really killed my interest in reviews was seeing how many former reviewers went on to work for publishers they used to review. That became a goal for most reviewers so it was hard to trust any of their opinions if building relationships within the industry is more important than being an honest critic.
