Jurassic Park Vs Home Alone

Been a long running debate in my friend group, curious where Misc lands.

Which is a better/more enjoyable film?

Jurassic Park

Or

Home Alone

I’m talking the OGs too, not all the sequels.

Finally a decent thread.

I'm gonna go with Jurassic Park. I thought Home Alone 2 was better than 1 as well.

IMO Home Alone 2 > Jurassic Park > Home Alone

That's actually an extremely difficult question to answer. Both are very special and very well executed.

Apples and fajitas comparison. Home alone by a mile for holidays. Jurassic park by a mile for pushing the limits.

CGI can’t compare to artfully built animatronics, especially when you see HD versions of the original.

Hmm. Thats a tough one. I would say at the time each movie came out, Jurassic Park was absolutely mind blowing. The special effects at the time were absolutely ground breaking. The concept was super original. The plot was excellent. The filming was amazing. It even spawned memes before memes were a thing, the whole t-rex in the side mirror with “Objects in mirror are closer than they appear”. I would say objectively Jurassic Park is a much better movie, especially judging on each respective release date.

However when you let nostalgia and feels etc into the equation and disregard which one was better “at the time”, then Home Alone is tough to beat at Christmas time. Its a Christmas classic that reminds most people of watching it as a kid waiting for santa to slide down your chimney with that new toy.

Yeah I saw it in the theater when it came out. If I remember correctly there was some “new” surround sound technology that came out that time that this movie took advantage of, so the soundtrack at that time was just stunning. It was a similar experience to watching the original Avatar in theater at release.

I remember watching it during my dinosaur phase. Seeing the T Rex was awesome. Kind of disappointing to later find out dinos probably had feathers.

I looked it up, Spielberg basically funded DTS for the movie, which was i believe the first “true” 5.1 surround sound in the day (before that all the speakers were just playing the same stereo track or maybe the rears were separate from
Front)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jurassic_Park_(film)

“To showcase the film's sound design, which included a mixture of various animal noises for the dinosaur roars, Spielberg invested in the creation of DTS, a company specializing in digital surround sound formats”

It started back when we were in high school I think. It was primarily one buddy and I saying JP was the best and my best buddy and his bro were all about Home Alone.
Don’t know why I thought of it today but figured I’d throw it out there.

Definitely "Home Alone".

I watch "Home Alone" every year because I love Xmas and hate spending it alone.

I watch "Jurassic Park" whenever misc calls me "Living Fossil." in every few years.

Home Alone 1 isn't about the burglars (Harry and Marv) trying to kidnap the kid (Kevin McAlister, or whatever the name was). It's about the burglars trying to rob the home of a filthy rich family they heard was gone on vacation. So initially, they believed the home was empty of people and thus easy pickings for robbing it. They then realized that the kid was somehow left behind at the house in an insanely retarded act of negligence by the parents/family. They then figure they can still burglarize the place because it's just some kid who won't be able to stop them. Then it turns out the kid has a bunch of tricks up his sleeve to mess up their plan, and in ways that humiliate them on top of it. It then becomes about them wanting to not only rob the place but get revenge by beating the kid up or whatever until the movie ends.

Home Alone 2 involved the burglars trying to rob places again or whatever, and it becomes a revenge type thing again as they try to catch Kevin while he continues to humiliate them with various pranks.

Jurassic Park and it's not even close. The movie theatre experience of both movies was entertaining, but Giant Fkn Dinosaurs on a huge screen, along with Surround sound made JP an epic adventure I will never forget watching in what? 1993? If I remember correctly, I watched it just after my 14th Birthday.

Still haven't experienced anything like that since. Was absolutely blown away at the time, and still am when watching on my 10 foot screen.

Guess I was a bit old for Home Alone. It was good, but not some killer epic movie experience. Just fun.
