Not sure I'm in the same boat but I had two guiness every night or scotch during covid.
Decided last summer that I didn't want to do it anymore.
Stopped buying alcohol.

Kratom (liquid shots) and delta 8 and 9. People point out it's just trading one drug for another. Tell your liver and kidneys that, they might have a preference for which one you use.

I just got to an age (32ish) where I realized I cannot drink in moderation so not going to the liquor isle at the grocer helps.
I do still drink on occasion but I used to have 2-3 drinks every night after work.

Been sober for 6 years and was a raging alcoholic.. like a handle of vodka a day type of drinking. What did I do? - 9 months inpatient, 9 months in a halfway house + outpatient treatment, daily AA meetings.
Is that much required for most people? Probably not.. have met a lot of people who got sober from meetings alone. But if you are knocking on deaths door and need to be removed from alcohol entirely, or if you have seizures when you stop drinking. inpatient treatment can serve a big purpose.
If you can get sober by just not walking through the liquor isle... I got news for you, you aren't an alcoholic.

I absolutely love drinking but I was a slave to it.
Dont like that feeling of being controlled by something so that made it fairly easy to quit.
Overcoming the boredom is about the worst of it.
Still drink but now only on special events like vacation. So basically from at least 4 -5 times a week to maybe twice a year.

Find something you value more than booze. You have to replace the addiction with something else. I go through periods of heavy drinking but then I'd quit and be sober for abit, then restart.
I don't think I'm an alcoholic but I just really enjoy escapism. If other drugs were legal I'd prob be doing that instead.
Day 5 sober crew, might keep it that way till the end of the month since I've been making some good strides on my mental health, feels good mane.

Don't have heroes; look up to no one. Because as long as someone's leading the way, the best you'll ever be is second.
