Anyone else find tipping culture weird af?

Like do you tip your barber? no

Do you tip your cashier? no

Do you tip your bin man? no

Do you tip your taxi driver? maybe, idk lol

Point is, all these people basically earn the same money and are essential in our day to days, yet for some reason weird af reason, it's instilled into us (well americans at least) that we MUST tip our servers, despite the fact that their salary should already be baked into our bill

And as prices sky rocket, they demand more pay, I cut the difference from their tips. Tipping about 5-8% these days.

I stopped getting takeout altogether when a lot of takeout places started asking for tips. What the fuk do they think the tip is for? Yeah here's a little extra money for the sandwich I already dcking paid for get fukt srs

Spent January in Spain, France, and Italy. Service industry folks were generally insulted if you tried to tip, and took GREAT pride in their work.

Such a superior and better applied system than our laughably dumb and inconsistent service industry tipping system.

Tipping was actually a great business move srs. Think about it - the MOGGER owners get to pay poverty wages, the HBB waitresses make $25-$50/hr for bringing plates to tables, and the customers compete with each other to tip more and feed their ego lol.

Serious respect for whoever invented the tipping system.

Topping barbers used to be normal.

Anyway, your post is autistic.

People go out to eat for entertainment.

The setting and service is part of the entertainment. So, the server is supposed to make you feel welcomed and relaxed without problems or frustrations.

You should not go to a restaurant and be brushed off, treated rudely, and so on. So, when a server is very nice and makes you feel good they are ACTING and you are in a show in the restaurant, thus you tip them for their service.

This has been going on for hundreds of years.
