Watched Aronofsky's "The Whale" the other night...

Haven't watched a movie or TV in general in a long time, definitely over a year and a half. I've always liked his movies and had been meaning to try and find time to watch The Whale. I had heard good things about it and Fraser's performance and it didn't disappoint. Sure, the story had some flaws but the acting was great. Was impossible to not get hit in the feels, especially at the end. The movie ended really abruptly and I found myself walking over to close up my kitchen coop 3 minutes after the credits rolled in the darkness of the night with tears in my eyes. I had to blink a couple times to get them to fall out so that I could see my way to the coop (srs). Would recommend to anyone who likes raw, visceral depictions of the darkest facets of the human condition that we tend to shy away from or not consider. Great movie.

You can read up on it online, I just don't want to post too many spoilers here.

Most misters say it’s trash. I’m torn on watching it. I don’t mind art house style movies, I can separate art from real life so movies don’t have to match my views on things but if its just a **** fest I’m gonna be pretty annoyed.

Plus I hate fat people. But that’s mostly just fat annoying women.

All arguably great movies but I just can’t stand that over the top depressing chit he portrays.

Same with lars von trier, fukk that dude.
Not my style either but I’ve considered giving it a watch just because Fraser is in it.

Everything I post is trash.

I remember really liking The Wrestler. But yeah, not the happiest movie. I've always liked more serious dramas and tend to gravitate towards the melancholic but I can see how people might not want to watch those kinds of movies. They're pretty emotionally draining. I remember watching American History X when I was a teen and that one hit really hard.

I remember that being a 5 second scene and nothing was shown. Not gonna avoid watching a movie for 5 seconds of discomfort. If you haven't scene the movie, the rest of it is much more shocking than the implication a dude is fapping to softcore porn.

You consider two guys plugging each other's anooses to be "softcore" porn?

The scene in question showed a guy fapping in his pants, nothing shown, to 2 guys on a laptop seen from the waist up, that's what I meant. Anyways, it's pretty reductive to focus on a few seconds of a movie and dismiss it entirely based on that. You don't have to watch the movie if you can't get past that. We all have that choice. Make sure to avoid the movie I referred to above (American History X) since there's a shower scene in there where a guy gets violently ass-raped.
