Why is GTA still popular?

Finally got around to playing GTA V and while I still like some of the humor and writing, the game is just not fun.

The big world is just a shallow background. It's only there to make you drive long distances. You do not affect it in any way and there is nothing to discover (like say in Skyrim) other than the trivial stupid minigames. All the NPCs are also mere decorations that don't mean anything.

The controls are utter chit. From driving to shooting to running, it feels outdated and clunky.

The missions are painfully linear. If it's a chase, you can't even catch up with your target before the game wants you to, actually slowing you down if needbe. You have ONE path and ONE way to do anything or else mission failed for no good reason.

Most missions or activities are not fun either. A lot of them are plain tedious like chasing Laslow in a semi or Trevor's rampage missions.

I don't get how they are still selling so many copies. The series has not advanced at all.

I thought it wasn’t? The game’s 10 years old now & the series peaked like 20 years ago with SA & Vice City.

I never hear brahs bring it up on here or elsewhere anymore. Both IV & V are also widely considered some of the most overrated games in history. To the extent it’s popular, it has a pretty loyal fanbase of online dweebs that eat up the hundreds of new releases for GTA Online every year.

Everyone else on Earth is pissed there’s no GTA 6 & is beyond tired of Rockstar’s constant polishing of the same overrated 10 y/o turd.

Thats the thing though. Why is everyone so hyped for GTA 6 when GTA V was so chit? Why did that game sell like 200 million units in the first place being so chit even for when it came out?

That's what I can't understand. Either 5 sucked, or I just got so burned out on the whole formula that I can't play them anymore. I burned so many hours in 3, VC, and especially SA.

Never really played 4.

Most gamers are retarded and don't know any better.

GTA 4 was the last good one IMO. Right before Rockstar went ape**** with CODifying and adding microtransactions.

3, VC, and SA are GOAT tier games (though I will admit nostalgia may play a part in this evaluation).

4 was decent, definitely worth a playthrough or two.

5 is where I genuinely think R* lost their way. They "tried" lots of things, overcomplicated their already-established solid formula, and of course over time absolutely destroyed the enjoyment of Online via all of the pay-to-______ content and by just turning it into some ludicrous 13 year old's wet dream. I'd go so far as to say Online was actuallyslightlymore enjoyable than the campaign at the start - before R* went full bonkers on it.

And I think the reason people are hyped on 6 is because soooo many of us in the 26-40 year old age rangewantit to be like the old days. After all of this time... after all of the waiting... after putting up with R*'s chit with 5/Online for a decade... maybe just maybe 6 will deliver what we really want and miss from the old days. I personally hope it comes through, but when it eventually is released I will be waiting to see if it is even remotely similar in quality to 5/Online... and if it is I will simply pass on it.

Dude stfu, GTAV was great for a game that released 10 years ago. It has a great engine and physics for an open world game that was made 10 years ago.

You must be fukin retarded, just the fact that you just played a game that released 10 years ago speaks for how great the game is. Go around and look at other open world games in the same genre and you will see how miles ahead GTAV is, then Rock star went ahead and dropped RDR2 that also is top notch in physics, graphics, gameplay and story. Of course everyone is quite hyped for GTA 6 after 10 years in the making.

you burned so many hours in 3,VC and SA because you were a kid. Kids today are burning just as many hours on GTAV. 3,VC, and SA is the same thing with even less but it was so new to us in that gaming era that it really shined.

Anyways the game on PC is still very popular because the engine is very moddable and makes the game feel next gen while adding a bunch of gameplay crap

Its still popular on consoles because of all the online crap.

The last actually fun GTA game I played was GTA: San Andreas. GTA IV was too gloomy for my tastes and only got halfway through before calling it quits. I beat GTA V, but it just didn't have the same satirical feel as the earlier games. Even tried the online version and it was alright. I think Saints Row: The Third is more fun to play than GTA V and that's kind of sad.

According to Take Two accountants, GTA 5 has generated nearly $7.7 billion since its 2013 release.

That’s why.

Also, I still play online and story because it’s still fun to me. Also play directors mode just to create havoc.

The definition of a low IQ retard, no surprise you love the game. 10 years ago is not ancient history. Older RPG's had a LOT more believable/detailed/rich worlds filled with notable named NPCs and a LOT less linear quests with choice and consequence. Older third person shooters had a lot better controls as well. Games had evolved way way past of what GTA V delivered. It's a braindead experience for ****gits like yourself.

If you're going to tell me that GTA is "not that kind of game" then its an outdated and chitty kind that should have evolved long ago.

4 and San Andreas are goated

GTA v was pretty good, I liked the campaign and some parts of the story more than others. The mp was alot of fun on pc when it came out. I played about 250 hours before I moved on, and alot of my mp was actually played with miscers and we had perfected all the heists basically. Played through single player with some fun mods too.

III, Vice City, and San Andreas are legendary.
IV I never got far into, seemed solid enough.
V was fun as fuk at the time but online sucked ass.

I think Red Dead 1, 2, and Undead Nightmare might be the true masterpieces from Rockstar, though. I'd say those 3, along with Vice City and San Andreas are the best work Rockstar have ever done.

Always heard good things about Bully but never played it.

Never played much of Manhunt. Love the concept, but the gameplay seems a bit dated. Feel like Last of Us kind of took the sneak + assassinate gameplay loop from Manhunt, now that I think about it, and crammed it together with Left 4 Dead.

IV wasn’t bad (I enjoyed it), & it was better than V IMO, but it is (rightly) widely considered overrated. If you look at most of the thread, you’ll also see that most people put SA & VC over IV.

My god.

I actually went into the gta online mode accidentally while trying to go into the story mode and decided to stick with it ... enter the map and my ears gets blown up. so many random weirdos on mic, some talking in various languages, people had their mic on but were afk or something so you can hear everything in the background.

Felt like I entered an insane asylum. Noped outta there quick.

Vice City was my intro to GTA. it was fukking unreal, so much fun, so addicting, so much 80s music...

I didn't give any of the newer ones much of a chance, they just felt like crap, didn't have the same magic

Yup. Vice City & San Andreas were peak gaming for me. IV was great game in its own right but didn't have the same magic. V felt soulless.
