Matt Taibbi gets visit from IRS while testifying about Twitter Files

I quickly mentioned this in another thread a couple of minutes ago about how the RP is pathetic, obsessed with Trump. So while testifying about the federal government telling social media companies to censor factual stories it doesn't like (including about Hunter Biden) Matt Taibbi, the lead journalist about the Twitter Files got a visit from an IRS agent at his home. Concerning 2 years of taxes that were already accepted without issue before.

Such blatant attempts at journalist intimidation, it's sickening. The White House is silent after being questioned on the matter, and Janet Yellen deflected when asked about it, as her department oversees the IRS. Whistleblowers are treated as enemies of the state out in the open.

From the NY Post article:

White House spokesman John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the National Security Council, declined to provide a substantive reply.

“I’m afraid I’m going to have to refer you to the IRS,” he said succinctly.

“Federal law prohibits the IRS from commenting on individual taxpayer matters,” spokesman Robert Marvin told The Post.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, whose department includes the IRS, also was pressed for answers Wednesday by House lawmakers.

“What are the chances of that being just luck?” Rep. Chris Stewart (R-Utah) asked Yellen of the timing of the visit.

“That the IRS appeared at someone’s home while he’s testifying about the weaponization of the federal government before Congress? Because I think it’s minuscule. I think it’s one in a million or less,” Stewart said.

“It’s certainly something that I would want to look into,” Yellen replied.

Edward Snowden certainly wouldn't be surprised about this. Neither would Glenn Greenwald, who out of fear of reprisal lived outside the US for about a decade. All because they revealed info about the surveillance of the federal government, and in the case of the Twitter Files, government using third parties as their arms of censorship. After Taibbi famously reported the malfeasance by Wall Street that led to the Great Recession the Obama administration praised whistleblowers and asked for more. Oh, except not whistleblowers who report what shady schit the government is doing, that's different. That's to be punished, swiftly. Just ask Snowden, who will be imprisoned if he ever comes back to the US.

To no surprise they're silent about trying to intimidate Taibbi. It's a warning to other would-be whistleblowers.

This has been done for years, each party weaponizes the IRS when you talk.

Each? Seems like anyone speaking against either the "uniparty" or the Democrats (who are part of that) get a visit.

Take Greenwald, a lefty guy, he doesn't feel threatened because he speaks out against the GOP, it's because he's against the corruption of both parties.

Is there anyone who exclusively speaks out against the GOP, who gives the Democrats a pass (ie. anyone at MSNBC, CNN) who gets harassed like this? Or is it just people on the right or people who threaten tech barons or big corporations?

IMO, mainstream Democrat values align with the uniparty. Pro-war, pro-big tech, pro-censorship, pro-pharm, you name it. Mainstream Republican leqaders also align up with these views but they have to hide it or pretend they do not while they grift their voting base who do not agree with these stances. Like Jim Jordan constantly screaming about Google, then taking their money and actually doing nothing but yelling about them in pointless hearings.

The only people who really get targeted are sincere people trying to uncover corruption, you'd think more honest people would be upset with this.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

I started paying attention with Bush and his hitman Karl Rove, that was when i first heard about it being used.
Maybe it was Cheney.

The IRS functions more like enforcers for the mafia than anything else. Hell, where else did they get the playbook?

Yep.

If the tax code issooooocomplicated, then it would be practical to cut out the ridiculous loopholes instead of hiring 8 Helm's Deep's worth of IRS agents. There is not logical or practical reason for "Hollywood accounting" to still be a thing, or for paid tax software to exist, but the ones behind those very things are the ones paying off politicians to ensure that the status quo remains.

Enough willful idiots have been fooled into believing that government agencies are workingforthem, even as they circumvent the very pillars of our nation to spy on them "just in case."
