No Mario movie thread yet? It was great.

I just got back from taking my 8 year old and her cousin. I’ve never seen them so entertained by anything. She kept yanking my arm and squealing in happiness at every character, item, and musical theme she recognized.

I mean it’s a major studio tent pole family film, so the plot is as straight down the middle as they come, but it was visually inventive and they crammed as many references to the games as you could as for.

The cameo appearances by Mario’s in game voice actor was surprisingly sweet, too. EASILY the best video game movie I’ve ever seen, which until today was not a high bar to clear, lol

Yeah unless you’re a rabid Mario fan you can wait to steam it, but you’ll have a good time. We have young kids so fun excuse for a movie date with my daughter.

It’s definitely an all-ages movie, but what would you expect Mario’s target audience is 3 generations lol

Glad you and the family enjoyed it OP. Mirin the familymaxxing, must be nice

Wonder what the 3D Mario team is up to nowadays. It’s been 5.5 years since Odyssey and over 2 years since Bowsers Fury (which was smaller scale, more like a dlc)

I would be 0% surprised to see them drop an Odyssey 2 confirmation in the next few weeks while theres a pop culture moment around Mario. At least in our theater they had a branded Mario one of that thing where you stick your face thru a hole and it’s your faces as Mario and Luigi. Seeing everyone line up for a turn was super wholesome.

I haven’t played odyssey yet - i finally bought a switch like 6 months ago now that she’s old enough to game so I’m behind on their first party stuff. I did play Bowsers Fury and thought it was great.

That would make me happy, but I’m thinking they may wait for a switch successor so they have a big launch game.

But Odyssey is fantastic. Wood recommend. Kind of easy until end game stuff though if you are experienced in 3D platformers. But beautiful worlds, great soundtrack, fun to explore, super tight controls

I keep hearing good things about the Mehrio movie. If it's at least on par with the first Silent Hill film, then that's good.

We were shopping for a family computer in CompUSA in the 90s and there it was, Super Mario 64 on the N64 connected to one of their CRT tvs. It was so shocking seeing a 3D Mario game for the first time. Too bad none of my friends or relatives had an N64 as everyone was Sonymaxxing.

very good movie
illumination did really good on the animations

the movie touches on a lot of mario games from old to new and some of it is quick and you gotta be paying attention

its a great touch of nostalgia mixed with in with good humor especially from jack black's bowser.

As a Mario fan for something like 30 years I've thought all the previews look great. No idea why the critics are being so bitter, it's like anything that's escapism or fan service is inherently bad? Audience score looks exactly where it should be.

Started to watch a bootleg and it looked great, turned it off though cuz quality was ****e. Might see it in theaters.

because the critics just don't get it

this is one of those critics who scored it very low

cliffs

- she thinks the movie is offensive because everyone in brooklyn new york (where mario is from in the movie) was Italian and donkey kong land is also.
- peach didn't have enough girl power
- didn't like how mario turned into a cat (cat powerup) and thinks its a play for furries
- call its illumination's worst movie

all critics basically think like her and thats why she-hulk is critic rated 80% audience rated 33% and mario is 56% critic rated and 96% audience rated.

I guarantee they would sell you a $15 bucket of popcorn even if you don’t buy a ticket. But I would go see it bro! PG wholesome life is where it’s at srs.

People who weren’t around back then will never understand how crazy seeing Mario 64 was back then. It was SO far beyond anything we had, I distinctly rememb My cousins getting it for Christmas and we all just sat there slack jawed staring at the graphics.

Such a crazy difference with "critics" and regular people 56% vs 96%. Yeah i'm going to go with the 5,000 people that give it a 96% and i'll watch it....

These critics have been giving every movie Chris Pratt is in horrible ratings because he's openly christian and anti woke.

I am Christian but it doesn’t make me more or less into Chris Pratt. But it definitely makes me laugh how much the “tolerate everyone” crew actually don’t tolerate anyone different from them.

Tolerate my beliefs is so often code for “believe exactly what I do” lol.

Have you seen many? I agree that most do suck. Of the 100 or so that have come out in the past 30 years, about 90% of them are 1/10 movies.

There are a couple exceptions though.

Street Fighter 2 The Animated Movie was a strong 9/10.

The Sonic movies and Mortal Kombat were strong 8/10s.

I loved it. Modern video games are mostly trash. My only complaint was Seth Rogan's Donkey Kong was just Seth Rogan, right down to the stupid laugh.

It's a kid's movie so I doubt I will see it outside of it being a free offering somewhere just to check it out. Never been sold on the voice acting either, but if people are enjoying it, I guess it must have done something right.

Well dude, the left is notoriously obsessed with trying to control everyone. Ever notice how aggressively they try to force everyone to buy the products they want them to buy? How aggressively they gatekeep any industry they get a presence in? How they try to assassinate anyone/anything that tries to go against them or in any way challenges the narratives? The way they aggressively try to eliminate free speech everywhere? I mean I can go on and on, but they've definitely become an oppressive force in this day and age.
