The sun is the basic premise of a lot of religions.
Sun. SUN DAY. Almost the entire christian religion started from it. Which is why I am still amazed that people actually think that stuff is real.

My understanding is back in the day, the Pagans worshipped a god named Ishtar on this day. She was the god of fertility and sex, hence the rabbits. The Christians/Catholics whoever they were back then. Kept the name Ishtar(easter) as a means to get the pagans to participate in their Easter Sunday mass and ultimeately convert. Since then, the two holidays Pagans worshipping Ishtar and christians celebrating the resurection have merged into the sacrilege abomination that we now know as easter
