Was never going to end well

Whole Foods opened a 'flagship' store in Downtown San Francisco in March 2022
By October last year operating hours were reduced amid theft and violence
The store has now closed down indefinitely citing safety concerns for staff

Yeah they'll open up if they "can assure the safety of our staff." So armed security in the store, who also walk employees to and from their cars? That's probably the only way it opens back up without closing back down again. I saw an article where they want to turn some of the empty offices in downtown SF into student housing. I think NYC wants to do similar, but general housing and not just student housing, since they have tons of empty store fronts and offices too. But that angers a lot of people who are afraid it will cause rents to go down. And it seems a lot of currently commercial property owners would rather let their properties sit empty for months or even years than lower leases/rents. It's hard to fix stupid.
