Fuk a Dealership!.......Just Horrible
Went to look at a 2017 truck yesterday, just to see......salesman tossed me the keys and I gave him mine so they could assess it for potential trade in.
Ill try to keep it short and extrapolate if necessary.
-Low balled the chit out of me on my trade. expected that.
-1st quote was at 21% interest....2nd was at 18% and that's the lowest they'd go
-Didn't even bother pulling my credit, told me "We need to get you to agree to a payment you're comfortable with 1st"
-The whole time they were trying to make me talk about the payment completely ignoring the IR
-Literally kept saying, it's not the payment.....it's the $12k in interest.
-Kept changing the terms around to make the payment smaller but at the same IR
-Tried to completely change the scene and started pushing me to look at several 2023's.
-Was only looking at financing $19k (after my trade AND putting $5k down).....so at one point I said, Ill just pay the $19k cash and I was quickly told that that was NOT the cash price. If I wanted to pay cash today it was going to be 26K, which could not be explained why....I know why, but the manager couldn't explain it to me.
After about an hour, basically noped and walked out. As I was walking away they offered to throw $2k more onto my trade and pull my credit to see if they could get me the lowest rate they have which would have been around 7%......turned around and said "you should have done that 30 minutes ago" and walked out.
They've called me 3x and sent 2 emails since 4pm yesterday.
Just an overall chit experience with people who were constantly trying to swindle, pressure and belittle me.
Ill try to keep it short and extrapolate if necessary.

yep. they make $$$ off financing.
they hate cash. So always get finale price b4 telling them cash. If they balk, then bail. call anoither dealer and see if they can beat their price.
Be alpha. They love taking advantage of dumb people who have no clue what's going on and easy to scam with "fees" upon "fees".
google what fees you need to pay in your state. Chalenge every "fee".

If they keep talking about monthly payment and disregarding the price before financing, walk away. Those are trash dealerships. Didn't even try to pull your credit early on = trash. There are decent ones out there too where they give you the price and are happy to take the pre-approved loan amount from your bank or credit union.

You should be able to get an option contract and finance it at your bank. usually you'll get like a week. You can see what rate you'll get at the bank beforehand.
If trade in, always have the car assessed at a place like Carmax first. Many times Carmax will offer more than the dealer, and you can use that as leverage.

You should respond to their email calling them out (in a nice-sounding way) for trying to take advantage of you and screw you over instead of actually trying to help you out as the customer. So they can realize how destructive and dishonest their behavior is.
Dealerships can be the worst. Those interest rates are ridiculous.

one thing ive learned after a few trade-in's is to always state the number youre looking for first - before they throw out a number and if need be go a little high.
people may say "never be the first to make an offer" but this doesnt apply to trade ins because you know theyre going to lowball out of the gate.
when i was looking to trade in my F150, i chit you not, one dealer would say $18k,. another $24k, and then another said $26k. but when i started saying i need payoff of $xyz then i started getting offers way closer to what i wanted, probably because they knew the deal was a no-go unless they met or came close to my number.
on the truck i just got, my first offer was at 14.4% interest but i declined and they called back a week later with 11%. still absolute chit rate but i had a certified lemon from ford that i guarantee was gonna take a chit sometime soon. almost everything on the truck had went bad at some point ded fkn srs, even driver's seatbelt twice & IWBs were currently bad, and it was an XLT. now i got a Lariat.

Yeah
Local dealer wanted 10k over msrp when I was buying.
Same truck for msrp 200miles away. I called that dealer said โI want to buy the truck you have for the price,lโ drove my old car down and they gave me 500 more than other dealer said trade in was worth and honored their ad for the price so handed them cashiers check and bounced

I've had good luck with dealerships that do the no-hassle web sales. Sell your car outright - don't trade in. Get your own financing, unless one of the major manufacturers are offering zero or low rates on new through their finance arm.
Find the car you like at a competitive price, make an appointment for a test drive and make sure to waive all add-ons. (extended warranties, dealer upgrades, etc)
It's not a great time to be buying because car prices are over inflated, but there are some decent dealers and deals out there if you do your research. I'd stay away from the big chains and mega dealerships.

Look at the wedding industry, it's a full on scam.
Cars are no different. People smell the new interior, feel the smooth handling, then have the finance guy say, "It's all yours for $300/month!".... without mentioning that you have to pay that for the next 24 years for a car that is worth $17k.

Always get the "out the door" price. You know exactly how much you are going to pay then they can creatively account the breakdown to what makes them the best commission. If you can't pay cash then you know how much of a loan to ask for from your bank/credit union. Don't use their finance department if you can help it.

I've owned 10 or so cars in my life and only bought one from a dealership. I had USAA give me a blank check when I found the car I wanted then went in and negotiated a price then pulled out the check. I'm sure they weren't too happy but I wasn't going to listen to their BS about financing. NOTHXJEFF. With that said, I'll probably never do it again since it's much smoother to buy from a private seller and you can talk them down much more than a stealership

Damn that sucks, I don't think I'll ever go to a dealer again, they either come to me or I'm buying privately
Got my last car during the lock downs so dealer drove the car to my place, I test drove it and then bought the car on my front porch
Price was negotiated through the phone before they drove it over, it was about a week of back and forth calling till I got them to bring price down a bit

Dealerships 9 times out of 10 sketchy, especially the used racquet.
Going to buy a new truck with cash later this month. Debating on letting them run their dog and pony show before telling them I'm str8 cash homie or to walk in and tell them I'll take it at the sticker price, no extra add on warranty BS, just get me the papers to sign and I'll give them the check.
