Aging and death is the great equalizer in a narcissistic society?
When you think about it aging and death is the thing that makes us all truly equal. It also fleshes out empathy like nothing else can.
In another 10 years some of the once young dudes that posted here back in 2007 or 2008 when I first came to this site will be 50-60 years old. I think of how on top of the world someone like Ronnie Coleman was back then...now he can barely walk.
Think about how much the body changes in the amount of time...the ailments that pop up, random chance events like car wrecks, the general wearing down. And the amount of people you see leave this world.
No matter how much we chase or even obtain the highs of this world...time keeps on ticking. Have it all today and it's all gone in 10 years.

Agreed…
when all we are doing is filling our time with nonsense while we wait our turn to die, what does it matter if you hyper focus on making fat millies or just go fishing.
No one can escape it, and the tasks that we perform while we wait are all as equally meaningless.
do what you want. every second of every day. do what you want to do.
Stoics advocate contemplating our own personal mortality as source of motivation and inspiration. After drinking the kook aid and gaslighting myself, I agree with them.
There is a lot of power there. And we all have it.

The Danse Macabre, also called the Dance of Death, is an artistic genre of allegory of the Late Middle Ages on the universality of death.
The Danse Macabre consists of the dead, or a personification of death, summoning representatives from all walks of life to dance along to the grave, typically with a pope, emperor, king, child, and labourer. The effect was both frivolous, and terrifying; beseeching its audience to react emotionally. It was produced as memento mori, to remind people of the fragility of their lives, and how vain were the glories of earthly life.

These monks keep the skull and bones of the monks that die, inscribing their skulls
It is considered a reminder of death and a joyful memento that their fellow monk went to Heaven
It is just funny in a dark way how skulls have a big smile on them and everyone eventually decays into a skeleton
