Any plumbers here? Got a high as fuk quote for a full house repipe. What is fair?
My search for a full house replumb (CPVC to PEX-A, Uponor specifically) has been a bit disheartening. I knew the company who came out yesterday would be high, because they were bigger and charged for a quote (most companies in general around here do not) but I thought what the hell. Note that my house is a 1950sqft split foyer, which means NO pipes in the ceiling, an unfinished utility room, and 2 full baths 1 half bath. He even said not many holes would need to be cut.
Their "premium", which included repiping EVERYTHING in the house to Uponor, drywall work, and a 10 year warranty, was over 18k.
Their lowest, which included repiping most of the house (except for something with the shower valves), no drywall work, and a 30 day warranty was over 13k.
And this doesn't include replacing the main line underground to the street.
So yeah, I was expecting the prices to be literally half.

Seems pretty reasonable to me. That's basically the going rate for plumbing nowadays. Especially when it's not new construction, plumbing is a pain in the ass.
If it's just swapping out pipes for PEX, you could always do it yourself if that's too much money.

Plumbers don't normally do drywall, so it sounds like what you've got there is a general contractor that is going to charge you a premium for connecting all the dots so you don't have to.
If you sub it out yourself it's obviously going to be a lot cheaper, but you'll have to put in the work as a GC.
I wouldn't come to your nasty house and fix your sh*t unless I'm gettin' paid some scratch.

I'm not a plumber but my buddy owns a plumbing company and that sounds like an acceptable charge. Its alot of work to replumb when you have to start tearing out walls to do it.
I replaced just about all of my water lines with PEX duing various remodeling projects and can tell you PEX is super easy to DIY but the big drawback are the fittings are a few dollars a piece so it adds up fast.
