OKEECHOBEE -- A preacher who coached middle school basketball and baseball has been charged with a felony in connection with his relationship with a teenaged student.

On April 12, 2023 Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO), Detective Cauley received information regarding an Okeechobee County School District employee implicated in a romantic relationship with a student.

On Friday, April 14, 2023, the Okeechobee County School District was contacted by OCSO Office regarding inappropriate conduct between an individual who has served as a baseball and basketball coach from Yearling Middle School and an 18-year-old student.

Donny Raney has been removed from all coaching activities and contact with students. The district has notified the Office of Professional Practices for further sanctions.

After a thorough investigation by OCSO, Donny Raney, 36, was arrested on April 19, 2023, and booked into the Okeechobee County Jail for violating F.S.S. 800.101 (2) (B), An authority figure engaging in a romantic relationship with a student.

He has since posted a $50,000 bond and has been released.



Two consenting adults engaged in a romantic relationship so what a weird case. This seems like a law put on the books as an enhancement/additional crime for actual predator teachers going after middle schoolers or underage students but an 18 year old? I’d like to see if a woman coach would be arrested for the same thing with an 18 year old male.

I don't get it. Most people under 30 annoy the f*ck outta me. Why would anyone want an 18 year old. Unless they mentally act 18 themselves.......

She was a student at a completely different school though and he wasn't even a teacher. Just a weird scenario and a weird law when applied in this case. I see it as an ethical issue, but to criminalize it?

I don't think it even matters when it comes to these sorts of laws. He was a coach at a middle school, so technically he's a "teacher/authority figure" in this case. Sucks for him...and it's criminalized specifically to stop the groomers. But then they allow in tranny reading hour in 1st grade, so they're all full of ****.

i mean it makes no sense why he would be facing any kind of charges.. but where the fook does a 36 year old interact socially with a 18 year old. yeah a dive bar or the 36 going out to clubs but ultimately i can bet there's no positive male father figure in her life. or else why would a 18 year old let a 36 **** her, when he's just a gym teacher.

a lot of young girls have a lot of issues. some of them cut themselves, like on their legs and arms, and on the outside you would never know, as they are some of the prettiest girls on earth.

they deal with a lot of emotional stuff, hormones, insecurity.

then they go to work, or to school, and have to deal with creepy predators trying to manipulate them into sex and relationships. I have a friend who got her first job at 18, and a 40 yr old man was her manager, kept using his position as her boss to flirt with her and get her to stay late with him, trying all sorts of creepy **** on her.


imagine going through life with all the men treating you this way.


some girls turn out so ****ed up, that they just are desperate for someone to love them, and sometimes they will fall into some older mans trap.

Thursday, April 19, 2023 Donny Raney, 36, was arrested and booked into the Okeechobee County Jail after being accused of being involved in a romantic relationship with a minor.

OKEECHOBEE, Fla. (CBS12) — A high school pastor from the Okeechobee County School District was accused of being involved in a romantic relationship with a student.

Donny Raney, 36, was arrested on Tuesday and booked into the Okeechobee County Jail for violating Florida law by engaging in a romantic relationship with a student, says the Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office.

In a heavily redacted arrest report from the Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office, deputies found out about the relationship after the victim's mother expressed concerns that her daughter may be involved in an inappropriate relationship with two teachers at Okeechobee County High School, Omar Ayala and Donny Raney.

According to the arrest report, the mother told deputies, she purchased the victim a new cell phone for college and while transferring over the phone's contents she found "disturbing" messages between the victim and the two teachers.

Deputies said, in the report, they explained to the mom that with the victim being an 18-year-old no criminal charges could be filed against Omar, however, she could report Omar to the school board.

The mom told deputies of an incident that occurred in 2020 that involved the victim and Omar in 2020 while he was the coach of cross country team. However, deputies said the incident was found to to be non-criminal due to the fact that she was 18 at the time. The Okeechobee County School Board said that Omar could no longer coach any female sports, have girls in his classroom during lunch and could not interact with the victim, the arrest report reads.

The arrest report says, deputies did look into Raney as well but found no explicit communication between the victim and Raney prior to her being 18.

Deputies did interview Raney, the arrest report reads, but his statements are redacted throughout the arrest report.


Thursday, April 19, 2023 Donny Raney, 36, was arrested and booked into the Okeechobee County Jail after being accused of being involved in a romantic relationship with a minor. (Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office)

The arrest report, says deputies interviewed the victim who said after she and Omar separated that she began to see other guys, one of them being the school's pastor.

In the arrest report, the victim said she has known the pastor for a while because he was the high school preacher, she said, he had always been "really cool" to her. She said the two "just recently started talking."

In addition to being a pastor at Okeechobee County High School Raney was a basketball coach for Yearling Middle School for the 2022-2023 school year, the arrest report reads. He has since been removed from the coaching and staff list for the future.

After evidence was gathered, it was determined Raney violated the state law by an "authority figure engaging in a romantic relationship with a student."
They had inappropriate messages during school, she was 18 at the time, and nothing prior, but only started talking "recently".

But they arrested him for being involved in a romantic relationship with a minor.

Those 2 statements conflict with each other.

So either the news got it wrong, something is missing, or they arrested him on suspicion of being involved with her, and then they found out he did hook up with her during high school.

They probably should have both waited until she graduated.

Just because something is possibly a bad thing doesn't mean it should be illegal. A legally adult woman dating a man should not be a crime.

See bolded in article I quoted above.

Apparently in Florida there's a state law: no authority figures can have relationships with students, seemingly regardless of age, although that's the assumption I'm making, as I haven't looked up the law.

Guess they need to wait until they're not their students anymore?

Not surprised he got fired, but maybe because their student/teacher relationship started when she was underage they have grounds for the arrest?

Again, would love to see a picture of a girl that a guy is willing to throw his whole life away to bang. And I guess maybe they never consider that she was the one doing the seducing of the older guy? I mean, if she's sending him nudes and sexting him without being prompted, how is that his fault?
