Another Xbox L, Hi-Fi Rush failed to meet expectations.
Jeff Grubb on Hi-Fi Rush: "Based on what I've heard, it just didn't make the money it needed to make"
Jeff mentions how there may still be a performance expectation for games despite being on Game Pass, and that a far bigger game like Halo Infinite ultimately failing to provide a cushion of sorts by bringing in tons of money may hurt games like Hi-Fi Rush. We have heard statements like these before with the most recent being from Sony on how even Call of Duty helps to fund their first party content. Or how huge successes like Spider-Man, Zelda, etc... allow room for comparatively smaller successes or experiments that don't work out.
Call of Duty could serve that role for Microsoft (assuming the ABK deal goes through), but Jeff says it still feels like Microsoft's decision making in regard to game management is handled sloppily.
Jeff also mentions that management is not happy with the state of Xbox. He doesn't go into more detail about that specifically, but says commentary regarding any dissatisfaction with Xbox is more to acknowledge and diagnose issues it has because they matter.
---
22:25-24:50 = Hi-Fi Rush
29:38-30:25 = Management unhappy

Yea no chit. Just another cringe lord weeaboo poverty cartoon graphics game. Xcucks are proper cringe how they cling on to these chitty titles as if they can hold a candle to anything Sony puts out. Remember when they were raving about that trash weedcel rick and morty inspired game? Lmao
Hfw dlc dropped the other day which is just gonna obliterate all of these Gaypass filler titles. They're the equivalent of Netflix straight to Dvd movies

Wonder how long the gamepass business model will last, especially when they put new games on there.

They haven't even felt the need to end the loophole to get GP cheap so I'm guessing it's doing pretty well in their eyes.

I saw a post once where someone gave insight into why gamepass can be a problem for MS. It said that their bigger releases go directly to gamepass, and as such aren't dependent on selling copies. As a result, there's little to no incentive to work hard and create a product that is worth $70 to gamers. Conversely, Sony needs games to sell many copies, they need their exclusives to be praised and put in much more effort towards high quality releases.

Isnt the whole point of Gamepass to be able to play for "free" on a subscription?
I can't imagine why anyone would want to go pay for that title when they can play it for free.
The bigger question is how sustainable will this model be for Microsoft? you can have all the money in the world but if you're not making any more money in general + off gamepass then the titles that you're gonna be served is all gonna be bottom of the barrel type stuff.

Not all games need to be $70 either. Hi-Fi Rush isn't. It's worth mixing some low budget games in.

Sony needs us to buy GOW Ragnarok so it has to be a very compelling release to convince gamers to fork over $70 for it.

Why would MS want their employees to not "work hard"?

Seems like a nothingburger:https://www.trueachievements.com/n52...ango-gameworks
and in general, if anything, ms’s first party quality has improved this generation vs last. You’ll laugh or make whatever comment, but their “quality” has in general been high. It hasn’t been “a couple avg games a year”, that’s not going to get people to stay subscribed

If Sony exclusives don't convince gamers to fork over $70, Sony is FUKKED. That kind of money for one game is alot for the average gamer.
Meanwhile MS games go straight to gamepass. If you're CEO of the company that makes these games, you won't be as pressured because you don't have to sell your game @70 a pop to be successful. At that point you're probably more interested in churning out two average games over one masterpiece.

Let's pretend MS was as poverty as Sony and had to sell this game to make profits. What price do you think they would have to put Hi-Fi Rush to be a significant success?

They're not going to stand around while companies they own slack off and throw paper airplanes at each other instead of making quality games.

It happens often…. Sales and quality are two distinct things.

I'm not focusing on critic reviews here because critics don't buy the games. They receive free copies (often accompanied by company favor) and therefore have incentive to be biased.
If gamers need to buy the games, can you name one game that the gaming community truly loved but was also unsuccessful?

Bayonetta
Earthbound
Bloodborne
There's a lot of great games that didn't move a ton of units. The PS1 alone is full of them which is why those games are so damn expensive.
Sales is kind of a weird metric since not everything is designed like Marvel movies where they moneymax in development and advertising to appeal to the largest audience possible.

I wouldn’t say returnal was a massive commercial hit at all, but it is good
And critics receive games all the time, but only rate certain games well. I have never seen any correlation of “games critics receives vs games critics rate well”. Far cry 6 and forspoken didn’t review well. Cod often doesn’t review well. Resident evil 6. And in general, critic reception and gamer reception are aligned fairly well (I don’t mean metacritic user reviews, as people just use those to troll, and you don’t have to have played the game, and can make multiple accounts)
And yea, same list.

Shinji Mikami's games have been pretty stellar.
It doesn't appeal to me because I'm not a teen, but from the trailer Hi-Fi Rush looks pretty fun and the cel shaded graphics are quality.
Thing is, it's not based on any IP and there's tons of junk coming out all the time for Gamepass so who's even gonna find out about it?
And it looks like a cross between Devil May Cry and.. Mega Man Zero? I can't really tell.
If you know Mikami's resume, this has Capcom, Capcom 5, Platinum Games, and Clover Studios written all over it.
So throw Viewtiful Joe into the pile too of games it looks like.
