HZD: Burning Shores Inital Thoughts

Only a few hours in. Of course game paly wise, etc it's the same as the base game, but visually it's truly a treat. Even if you couldn't get into HZD (because you're a psycho and something is wrong with you), you should play Burning Shores literally becauseit is visually the most stunning thing to see on PS5 to date, and nothing else is even close.
Playing this game with HDR at 4K is nothing short of impressive. It's really a shame studios are too lazy to optimize a PC game to the level this game has been optimized for PS5, or else we'd already be playing PC games with those insane Unreal graphics trailers we see, but know we'll neve4r get for another 5+ years.

PS5 hardware is by and far incredibly unimpressive by todays standards. This game is a real testament to how far hardware can be pushed when a studio is willing to optimize the **** out of their game.

Sony first party Studio's are absolute wizards and magicians at being able to harness the power of the PS5 to make the best looking games on any platform. By default, even their pc games are some of the best looking titles.


Naughty Dog are meanwhile a generation ahead when it comes detail, visuals and animation compared to any other studio, apart from perhaps Rockstar. So excited to see what they're gonna come up with now that we're slowly leaving cross-gen behind .... I have a feeling Spiderman 2 is gonna melt eyeballs.



Fun fact of the day : Part of the reason why Sony is so goated at releasing the best looking games in the industry is because they have a legit special forces dev team that is purely focused on helping out studio's optimize and squeeze out every single drop of potential from the system.


Sony’s fabled ICE Team has always remained something of a mystery. While the platform holder’s acknowledged the existence of the technology-focused unit in the past, it’s never been entirely clear about how the Naughty Dog-based department came to exist. However, speaking as part of a presentation on his career at the GameLab conference in Barcelona, legendary developer Mark Cerny shared a little background on the mythical group.

“At the very start of development on the PlayStation 3, [current Worldwide Studios president] Shuhei Yoshida had concerns,” Cerny said. “Some of his concerns were about cost. There were many good [first-party] game teams in the United States, but they were all working independently, and the size of the typical team had tripled over the past years.”

Yoshida’s solution to save costs was to increase the amount of collaboration between the company’s subsidiaries, which resulted in the formation of the ICE Team, or the Initiative for a Common Engine. “We ended up forming a specialised technology group whose function was to spearhead SCEA’s entry into the next generation,” the luminary added. “Shuhei thought that Naughty Dog would be a good base of operation, and after some conversation with the [studio] founders Jason Rubin and Andy Gavin, we decided to free up some people from Jak & Daxter and use them as a base from which to grow a technology team.”

Cerny continued: “The team’s goal was to investigate advanced graphics techniques or other technologies, and also to build and disseminate various early systems that could be used as other studios began their preliminary next generation game development.”

Sony later furthered its cooperative vision by forming Worldwide Studios, which is the rich network of developers that we recognise today.If you’ve ever wondered why most first-party PlayStation games look like they’re in a league of their own, though, it’s probably got something to do with the ICE Team.

As a massive Witcher 3 fan, Forbidden West looks WAY better. Unless you mean the next Gen remaster.

Also Burning Shores is a step up from Forbidden West graphically since it’s PS5 only.

Just started playing it myself. Good god its beautiful, you're basically playing a Pixar movie only more detailed than that. Fkin insane attention to detail. Graphics of the year second year running no cap.
Ps5 remains completely silent too. Speaks volumes about the engineering in the hardware
