Slacks and chinos - does price/quality matter?

I'm basically going to be throwing out all my pants after Memorial Day cause I've lost a bunch of weight. I've had a couple shirts tailored, but pants..... fawwwk it.

Anyway, I asked this question about jeans, and the misc answer was basically "LMAO it doesn't matter, buy Wrangler."

But for nicer, dressier pants? Does more money actually buy you nicer pants? Or are they all just the Pakistan blue light special chit.

Yeah, that's basically the goal. Modern dating has reduced me to teenage girl levels of behavior.

For jeans it actually does matter. I would not buy Wrangler lol. Levi’s are the gold standard.

But for slacks I just pick up whatever at Target or Marshall’s.

That's insanity. The worse the weather, the more fitting it is to be wearing shorts.

I wear them out pretty quick, tho (usually 6 months to a year and they're shredded), so I'm always on the prowl for quality sized 32 waist cargo shorts.

The construction of the back pocket is the key.

Pocket on the outside of the butt > pocket on the inside of the butt.

Plus I've been told I look like a Mormon missionary more than once.... you really can't masculine redneckmaxx when you're that neotenous and low T. I've got to get some collared shirts and slacks and lean into the skid.

Levi's are trash and more prone to the seams twisting which looks like sh!t.

Much better quality out there like Dearborn Denim, which is made in America. Coincidently, Dearborn also has great chinos and quality matters with chinos as well. You can EASILY tell the difference between a good pair of chinos and the trash made in some third world country sold at Target/Marshall's.

Agreed. As long as it isn't real bad no one will notice whether you paid $40 or $200 for your pants. Just make sure they fit you well.

Whatever looks best on you, it's hard to say. You have to go out and try some on and see how you look in the mirror. That can be hit or miss with cheap and expensive pants, it depends on the cut and your body type. If you have a good taylor, that's probably best, as you can pick something comfortable and they can adjust it so it looks good too. Sometimes you can get lucky off the rack, it all depends.

The best pants I have now I bought on sale when lord and taylor was closing their store. They're brooks brothers, which imo can be expensive, but to me anything over $20 is expensive.

Solid self analysis.

I'd say shop around, but not at Ross, if only to break you out of your mold. You find decent stuff at Ross, but it doesn't sound like you have to settle for decent.

If there is a mall near by go there and peruse the men's clothing stores. Definitely compare pants that are made with materials that stretch versus materials that are stiff. That could end up being a deciding factor.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

Big mistake... Losing weight is one thing, keeping it off is another.

I would recommend you don't throw anything out just in case the weight comes back.

This is good advice. You obviously don't want stuff that is too stretchy because that can look tacky, but it should have materials that are maybe 1-2% spandex for example. That way the material will naturally taper to you giving you a good fit. As others have said the fit is what is usually what is most important.

Also, OP it might not be a bad idea just to spend the extra money as you originally stated and go to a "nicer" store since usually the clothes is made to be more form fitting. At least until you have a little bit of a bigger wardrobe going for you and know what you want going forward.

Yes, spending more is going to get you higher quality, better cut, and longer lasting pants in many cases. Also, it's not important to everyone, but I try to avoid clothing made in Asia as much as possible.

I'm honestly fukn baffled how you're still FA. You aren't picky, you're self aware, educated, have a good job and even if you aren't charismatic IRL you can at least fake it over text which should have landed you something from dating sites. I know you're in San Diego now but where else have you lived? Is it just that bad in southern California?

Born and raised in Idaho (never even thought about dating in high school), went to school in Texas, then moved out here. Christian Texas type girls would talk to memore, but it's not like I was crushing it there.

San Diego is a pretty bad dating scene for me, to be honest. I don't really like the girls out here, and they don't really like me.

I've mentioned before that I look exactly like pre-androgens Joe Burrow.

Spoiler!

And pry 80% of the chicks in SD are the doodlebish Insta type like this.

Spoiler!

That girl's not going to end up with that guy.

I'm in a rec sports league full of party-bar degenmaxxer types. Today the group chat was talking about someone making Jell-O shots and bringing them to our next game (srs). So if you can imagine Joe Burrow going up to some sleeve-tatted Instasloot like

Spoiler!

...that's where I'm at right now.

It's time to Mormon maxx.
