Why do no pro athletes live to 100+ if exercise is good for you?

Saw a little video of a dude saying no pro athletes live to 100+. He mentioned dudes like Reggie Lewis, Wilt, Jesse Owens, Lou Gehrig and a bunch more...the epitome of fitness...people with single digit body fat and elite endurance.

Is to think exercising will help us live longer just coping to help us feel like we have some control?

Anecdotally I've had women in my family that never exercised a day who lived to 85+...a few that were 75+ lbs overweight.

Does peak fitness have nothing to do with whatever genes control for longevity?

Low intensity exercise and s calorie deficit will extend your life to 100+, but it won't be a happy life.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

A lot of pro-athletes arent exactly making the best life choices when it comes to their health..

Look at more of the elite military units- those guys live well into their 90s. Had one dude in his 90s, former frogman, as my professor in my grad program- still running marathons and chit.

1 in 5,000 people live to 100.

Exercising is great for health, however when it comes to athletes there are other factors...

1. Drug use, whether a higher amount of recreational use or PEDs.
2. While exercise is good, pushing yourself to your absolute limits for years, facing numerous injuries and generally over-stressing your body, that can mitigate some of the benefits
3. Pro athletes generally do very well with life expectancy, minus outliers like boxing:https://wegrynenterprises.com/2022/0...ferent-sports/

Meanwhile, health/fitness guys like Jack LaLanne lived nearly 100 and was pretty damn active for almost all of those years, still doing pretty impressive stuff well into his 80s.

Your anecdote about a single woman who lived long doesn't hold up to the overall statistics.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Elite athletes are on the extreme end of fitness....imagine a Ferrari at red-line or a purpose built race car.....they take special parts, they're expensive to maintain and they break a lot, they get absolutely horrible gas mileage and usually don't last long or to high mileage.

...but GD is it fun.

ALL the people who live to be 100+ have the least competitive mindset you would ever imagine.

Having a calm, secure psychology is the key to longevity.

AKA, not a pro athlete lol.

So basically don't become obese and walk around the block once in a while and you live as long as you're going to live.

You think athletes in the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s were on PEDs and recreational drugs?

For every Jack LaLanne there's plenty of people who never even considered exercising as a stand alone activity.

That's what I've noticed with people living to around 90 or longer now that I think about it. They were often people that were content, low drama, didn't really compare themselves to others, weren't constantly striving to be better than anyone...basically weren't part of the rat race.

True oldcels drink coffee, alcohol, and dark chocolate. They also smoke moderately

It’s more about not eating so much, and living life slowly with a daily routine that extends life. High intensity athletes fizzle out and break down their bodies over time.

Drugs, recreational and bike. Pro athletes have the genetics to be pro even if they’re doing mountains of Pepsi every night and getting drunk on the reg, plus probably being on jewc year round from their retarded sports doc
Lifts:
Squat: 460x1
Bench: 400x1
Deadlift: 575x1
OHP: 250x2
Weight: 180 lbs.

Don't have heroes; look up to no one. Because as long as someone's leading the way, the best you'll ever be is second.

Pro athletes are about the least healthy people out there. Its basically do WHATEVER it takes to make you elite at one thing for a limited amount of years at the cost of everything else.

Kind of like asking why race horses get put down at 3 or 4 years old.

Maybe...those oldcels also spent most of their life in a time where people ate and drank what they did with no worries...time moved much slower too without constant stimulation and chit to worry about or be outraged about online...no constant texts coming in. Much less micro stresses. Get your cup of coffee and maybe smoke a pipe on the front porch watching the birds and squirrels.

You're conflating health with longevity.

Health in the overall sense is being strong, flexible, spry.

Nobody comes away from a retirement home thinking "boy those old people sure are healthy".
The billionaire and the beggar both have 24 hours in a day.

That's why grandma's apple pie rocks and yours sucks.

Were athletes from a different time living extended lives though? Like prior to 1960 or whatever?

Perhaps elite athleticism and fitness doesn't do much for longevity because people all sorta level out at some point...be it in the 40s or 50s or 60s.

I'd like to somehow see research on stress or mental outlook having nothing or something to do with longevity. Can the state of our mind produce physical changes?

I don’t think so. One of the keys to longevity is calorie restriction. Which is why you usually see these frail old men and women that never worked out in their lives and eat like 1 bowl of soup all day, they live to like 110-115 etc.

It has nothing to do with elite endurance IMO.

How has no one mentioned that athletes just fall off? They stop working out then fall off. That's all it boils down to.

This is true.

Everytime I see them interviewing a 125+ year old broad she's always yapping about how she never ate more than one squirrel a day.
