Solve homelessness for $100

The homeless are always in the news lately. Pushing people in front of trains. Getting strangled. People constantly complain about them on NextDoor. No one wants them in their neighborhood. How much would it cost to solve this problem? Lets do some math:

Acording to Google there are 500K homeless in the USA and the population of the USA is ~330M. So if we each gave $100 there would be $66,000 available to help each homeless person. Seems like this is plenty. You could house them in jail for less than this.

Now last year I gave:
$26K to the federal government
hundereds to charities
$600 in tools to a bum that broke into a house I was renovating.

Maybe the federal government could divert 0.4% of the money I gave them from "something else" to solve this problem?

But, no, they won't do this because the homeless are great "marketing material" for the bureaucrats. They are literal walking bill boards saying "give the government more money". This problem will never be solved.

To help the homeless, recognize that there are 2 types, "good people that have hit a streak of bad luck" and incorrigible druggies/mentally ill people. Focus on the first group. For the 2nd group provide "hospice level care".

How does giving $66,000 to someone who statistically is likely both mentally ill and a drug addict solve anything, again?

You skipped over that part of this solution and it seems like an important one, because it seems like if you give $60K to a mentally ill drug addict, in almost all cases they will blow through it in a matter of months or years at the most and have nothing to show for it by the end and be right back where they were.

> To help the homeless, recognize that there are 2 types, "good people that have hit a streak of bad luck" and incorrigible druggies/mentally ill people. Focus on the first group. For the 2nd group provide "hospice level care".

So, what percentage of homeless are type 1 Vs type 2 and, statistically over time, do people who are type 1 homeless remain homeless, if so for how long? Forever? They don't dig out of the hole on their own without a cheque for $66,000 or in almost all cases is it a temporary situation they are able to overcome without it or with help from other charitable sources (such as family, community, church)?

In order to solve any problem, you need to first understand it. I don't think you do.

I said 66K available to help them not to give to them. Of course giving them a check won't solve anything.
My point is that it is the governments job to solve this and they already have more than enough money yet continue to do NOTHING.

Sadly the majority of homeless are probably "incorrigible". I have known people that went through very hard times without becomming homeless.

Build tinny house communities or dorms for them on the outskirts of town. Give then the drugs they want and feed them on stale bread and pizza. Minimal health care to prevent infectious disease etd. Let them leave if they can, but if they end up back on the streets send them back.

The current situation is dangerous and cruel and only benefits the bureaucrats.

Who do you think will control how that $100 per American is spent? Who do you think are largely responsible for creating this issue in the first place?

I'm not sure handing greedy sociopaths billions of dollars to solve a problem they at best exploited, if not are directly responsible for, I'm not so sure that is a wise solution.

Of those homeless who are able to find their way out and get a job and find a home -- who or what do you think contributes to most to these incidents? The bureaucrats behind the system *or* families, communities, individuals and Churches?

Meaning, grab 100 random people who were homeless for at least 6 weeks but eventually were able to get out of that situation. Was it because of Government or because that person had someone or something in their life like a community or a Church or family and friends who helped them get over it?

The social contract has always been that they sit quietly and dont cause trouble, or they get rolled. Lately they have broken the social contract because there is no consequence for not doing so.

Bring back the beatings and consequence and you solve nearly all societies problems.

Money and services are not the solution, and letting bleeding hearts dictate what is done is certainly not the solution as thats what got us to where we are now.

A functioning society is more important than those who chose not to function nor participate in society.

I hate homeless people. I try to disrupt them if they come into my nieghbourhood.

I never donate even 1 penny to them.

Mass homelessness is a sign of cultural rot, not a lack of money. We are treating the symptom not the disease. Government cutting fat checks is not going to put even a tiny dent in the homeless problem. Our social fabric is decaying to the core and problems like mass crime and homelessness are direct results of that. We have become a very low trust, low cohesion society.

Scubastevo :-What percentage of women have STDs? (serious) If I just wanted to go bareback with any girl that I could get with, what are my chances of ending up bed ridden with STDs?
