How the hell did Ed Sheran win that lawsuit?

Whenever i hear that song I just hear Lets Get it On by Marvin Gay with someone else singing over it. I just figured it was like a lot of songs nowadays where they sample an older song and play their voice over it. But we’re supposed to believe that it wasn’t, and that Ed Sheran invented a new song and our ears are just tricking us? WTF???!!

well I'm sure you have to show intent as well. plus almost all songs are simple and based on very few chords (unless jazz which is goat btw).

i'm glad gays' family didn't win. woulda opened the door to all kinds of lawsuits over 3 notes in a row. sampling however is totally different.

Man in my day, Vanilla Ice got roasted and humiliated bad for copying David Bowie/Queen Pressure. Nowadays its just kind of expected.

wtf im a huge marvin gaye fan and this sounds nothing like lets get it on, smh they just have the same tempo but completely different melodies and sound nothing alike

Kind of funny though. Because you name a company something similar to Microsoft or something popular and you will get sued in 5 minutes and lose. Make a logo that is similar to someone’s logo and you are done. I remember back in the day Toy r’ Us suing ANYBODY that used an “R” between words and winning. Places closing down and stuff getting shut down. But you make song knowingly the same but change one note and its all good.
