What's the consensus on Black Beans?

My family was pretty big on pinto beans but after my dad got sick we switched to black beans. Now I sware by them. Tasty AF

Refried black beans as a dip for chips is amazing. It's all carbs tho so are they actually any healthier than other beans?

Solid legumes, would recommend garbanzo beans AKA chickpeas as well, very versatile.

They're pretty damn good. I prefer them over pinto in Mexican dishes. But I much prefer blackeye peas with with garlic and onions and chopped ham (less gassy, lol)

Black beans have 8g of protein. Anything with a solid protein to fiber ratio is going to be great for your health.

They are also great at fixing nitrogen, so anyone concerned about sustainable agriculture is doing good to incentavize their production.

Beans suck when it comes to the body's ability to digest them. They look good on paper though.

Das it repped.

OP check out the Goya Black Bean Soup in cans. It’s already seasoned nicely so you can just drain off the liquid (if desired) and you’re ready to go.

It’s an excellent nutritious side that comes together in seconds. I always have a can or two around.

Beans are a cheat code, srs.

As keyboardworkout pointed out a significant amount of the carbs in beans are in the form of fiber (roughly 50%) so they cannot be digested in the stomach or small intestine to free glucose. It can be digested in the large intestine (LI) by friendly bacteria. 2 of many byproducts of this bacterial digestion is butyric acid that can be used as a source of fuel by cells in the LI, and biotin, a coenzyme used to produce energy in the citric acid cycle and for lipid metabolism.

Beans absorb 1.5x their weight in water when cooked. This works out to mean that eating 1 cup of beans is roughly equivalent to drinking 1 cup of water. Great for people that don't enjoy chugging a bunch of water.

Fiber slows gastric emptying, giving your GI more time to absorb introduced nutrients in the small intestine, and to reabsorb cycled water and minerals in the large intestine.

I got into the best physical condition of my life when I was eating 1 can of beans everyday for lunch. Srs.

I like all beans, but black and kidney might be my favorite. No clue why but beans are just one of those foods I can always eat, one of my go to side:
