Anybody do cold plunge/ice bath regularly? Share your experience

I've been doing 2 minutes cold shower every day. Definitely wakes you up faster than a coffee. The first time I tried I was a bit$h and couldn't stand it for more than 10 seconds before turning the water off.

But would force myself to withstand the cold little by little staying a few seconds more under the water, and now up to 2 minutes like it's not that big of a deal.

So I want to incorporate the ice bath to my routine for additional benefits. Running a cold bath and dumping a few trays of ice in it.

Any brahs made that transition from just a cold shower or do the ice bath thing routinely?

I don't have the ice bath. I'd imagine a shower works well because the water is constantly running across your body, but I'm not sure.

I've been doing cold showers for about a month. I start hot, clean up and finish cold. I agree, wakes you right up and I feel great after. Also reduces chance of swamp ass.

When running track in college, I used to do 10 min in an ice plunge after a gym/track double session. Felt great, not sure if it truly does anything substantial but felt nice.

Yep I feel the same. But I think since parts of my body are not feeling the cold water at any given time (unless under a waterfall or someone has a small body) i will probably get better overall results by going full body in the bath.

The cold water kind of shocks you into breathing a certain way to regulate your body from freaking out. I'm sure there's a more scientific way to explain it, but I think thats one of the ways I benefit from it. Like reducing overall anxiety, by intentionally extreme stressor or something. Feel less phased by trivial chit after.

What's the logic here that cold suppresses swelling/muscle repair?

yeah, that's the "long story short" version. Ice baths reduce inflammation, and muscle building is a inflammatory response. Having ice baths too close to working out seems to hinder hypertrophy (but can be good for plenty of other things, if hypertrophy is not your #1 goal)

On recharge. Did not think about this. Makes sense.

I'm doing the cold shower routine for a natural way to fight off anxiety/depression and increase focus (along with other things: exercise, sunlight, water/whole foods, 8hrs sleep, meditation). Don't want to f around with pills.

But muscle gains are also a priority.

I feel the same way. Yeah I think you're body goes into survival mode. It certainly is great for recovery.

I did about 6k of elevation in hiking in Colorado, about 20mi. I hit the springs, they had a sauna and a cold plunge. Used everything. I didn't even use the cold plunge for very long.

I had 0 soreness and felt amazing the next day.

I rotate my body and make sure my pits, twig and berries get plenty of exposure, same with hands and feet, wherever the skin is the thinnest. I figure the more extreme it is the more benefits there must be. So sauna then plunge must be the most effective thing you can do.

Yeah, i think the actual study was using ice baths specifically, idk if cold showers are "cold enough" to inhibit anything and i bet it's so minimal that if it makes you feel great you probably arent hurting much by doing it, just something to be cognizant of.

All the cool (rich popular people) are doing ice baths in the morning pre workout.

After workout it eliminates benefits of lifting.

For cardio it might not matter since it helps with inflammation.
