Asus ROG ally - steam deck competitor

Looks pretty juicy, kinda poops on the steam deck spec wise.

Why would I want my left joystick on the top corner of the fuking handheld? You can tell this is made for Xcels with their dainty little hands and fingers.

Some people prefer that layout. It's really that simple of an answer.

I guess either way I'm not surprised to see you somehow talking about Xbox in the first post. Rent free. Not sure how your brain equates the joystick layout to thinking a handheld pc is being marketed for Xbox users, but I guess that's what rent free does to people.

OK we get it. It has the Xbox joystick layout and that's enough to send your brain your brain into forum combat mode.

I'm sorry to inform you that it's a PC gaming related product and has nothing to do with Xbox.

I imagine my adult male thumb continuously slipping off the corner of that thing. It's like trying to rub a chick's nipples but one boob is small and lopsided, causing your hand to keep sliding off.

Xcels and their little fairy fingers would have a blast tho. Love this for you.

Looks pretty cool if you are into portable gaming. I'm personally not. But I would definitely get this over the Steamdeck.

Exactly, why nerf yourself on a handheld when you can game on a powerful console on your monitor or TV and have a far more immersive experience?

The thing is way overpowered and overpriced for what it needs to do, which is to play less GPU CPU intensive games.

My neighbor had a portable sega gaming system as a kid and I wouldve envy them so much.

Makes sense. As an adult though, I just don't see the use case for this thing. I already have a PC and console. So when do i use this? When I'm out during the day or at work I only have time to misc a bit and reply to some chats and emails but that's pretty much it. Other times I'm with friends or doing errands and don't really have time to pull out a handheld.

^^ the only time I would use it is when I visit my mom out of state.

Would be nice for the plane ride and maybe if I was just farting around at night before bed

I don't get questioning the use case scenario for this. Obviously it's mobility. Just because you don't see the use for one with your lifestyle, you can't understand why someone else would want one? Really? Lots of people travel on a regular basis, or for work. The obvious use case is small form factor gaming on the go...

The gist of my post is I don't see why any ADULT would use this, assuming he has a functioning adult life. I totally see it working for kids though, I had handhelds as a kid.

So it's not fathomable to you that some adults travel, work away from home for extended periods, have long commutes, or are generally away from home long enough to consider a mobile gaming solution?

I don't really know what to say to that. I don't mobile game either, but I completely understand why this product exists.

Why not find something else to do until you can game on a real system? It doesn't change the fact that you're still gaming a highly watered down version.

Well for me personally if I had one it would be used on an airplane and at my mom's.

Airplane is boring, I usually just sleep or watch a movie.

My mom's doesn't even have a TV in the spare bedroom, so i could **** around play some games for a bit before I go to sleep.

I'm not like some big mobile gaming advocate lmao I just thought this product was cool and it poops on the steam deck so I shared it. I don't mobile game at all, I don't even have a single game on my phone.

Yeah they are OK. I've had a few asus monitors, my main monitor now is an Asus ROG

They are getting dragged right now over some cpu/bios/mobo issues though. Gamers nexus just recently put them on blast in a new video.

I don't think I'd get internal pc parts from them. Monitors have been great tho.

Yeah I know people buy them, I just think they're losers. How much less subtle should I put it? They called it Gameboy not Gameman and if I see a grown ass 30 year old pull out a portable in public I already know he's a dork. At least use your phone to watch a video or misc or something, who brings an extra game device? Where does it even fit, in your fanny pack?

Asus is great but sometimes their asking price for their ROG labelled products are way higher than they should be. I love their overall design language tho.

I just bought a new PC case, the ROG Z11, and it looks amazing but it's got some really dumb ass engineering and design flaws. Build quality is top tier tho. also got it on clearance for 1/5th of their original asking price.

Bro you moderated a half gay internet forum for years, argue with people relentlessly in a tiny gaming related subsection of that forum on a daily basis over gaming consoles.... and have the stones to think someone is a dork because they are playing a Gameboy on an airplane. Lmao. Strong everything. Yeah, the guy playing his switch is less of a dork than the guy buried in his phone on a forum arguing with people online.

Imagine this guy's sweet mom goes upstairs to wish her son goodnight. She opens the door to the smell of weed and her 35 year old son sweating profusely while gaming on a stim dik.

Brootal.

Next time just jerk off to some porn on your phone, that way if she walks in it would be far less embarrassing.

Gamer's Nexus literally posted the video 6 hours ago. Besides that video, how many others are there talking bad about ASUS? I searched the channel and didn't see any others.

Their 30 series cards are some of the best made, compared to Gigabye who has had known issues.

I just picked up the 'ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 (2023) G733PZ-XS97 17.3" Gaming Laptop Computer Platinum Collection - Off Black' a couple weeks ago. It's a fkn monster. Maybe it's overpriced but I don't give a fuk. ASUS has great styling to their products that I'm a fan of, way better than MSI, imo. And never had an issue with any of my purchases through them and they seem to be high quality.

Yeah I don't think they are a bad company or anything, just having a bad moment and bit handling that issue properly.

I've heard bad things about their rma process, but I've also never needed to use it either, so I think that sort of balances out.

I've been using the Asus ROG swift 27" 240hz 1440p for a little over a year and it's been great. I had an Asus 1080p 280hz before that which was also good for years.

I think when it comes to pc parts people get strong opinions real quick. Alot of people have trashed companies I'd swear by, and vice versa.

I do agree about their styling, my Asus ROG monitor looks awesome with the stand, too bad I mounted it though.

This actually is the first really viable alternative to the Steam Deck, I would definitely be interested in one if I didn't already have a Steam Deck, but as I already have a Deck this just fails to address some of it's biggest drawbacks, battery life being chief among them.

Yeah there is that as well. I bought a budget Asus gaming laptop a long time ago, like a decade ago, and it was probably the worst laptop I owned. It never seemed to run well and it aged terribly.

You never take luggage on vacation? A bag to work?

I used to play my PSP Go on the subway when I lived in the city. It's like half the size of a modern phone lol.

Sounds like you're ashamed of playing games srs.

Asus makes good stuff, I don't get the hate.

That being said: handheld PCs have existed before the Steam Deck. Why the Steam Deck is so cool is it's OS and UI. I have zero interest in a handheld windows PC.

90 minute battery life is a bit of a killer though.
I am surprised they don't make these things with easily swappable batteries, especially if they aren't worried about waterproofness. Swapping batteries like you would a GoPro makes so much sense.
These are obviously marketed to people who travel a lot, and often you can't get to a charger.

You check in for a flight and wait around... the thing is going to be dead by the time your board the plane.

That being said, Cloud gaming is pretty amazing at preserving battery. I can play for hours on my iPad and lose less than 10%. But I don't really think that's why you're buying a super powerful handheld.
