Zelda Totk Thoughts and Impressions 1 Week Later; Discussion of the Game the Thread
will avoid story spoilers
the hype is still going strong
the intro was good
story so far is ocarina of time plus the avengers
only collected 2 tears
did 1 "main" dungeon
still just exploring and doing shrines/caves/seeds
up to 8 hearts and 2 stam wheels
found some fairies but i cant just give them money to juice me up, some quest involved
killed some hand mob then they clapped back by spawning a big bad boss
so far this game is much meatier and juicer than botw, getting side tracked on what to explore next

So I went to the first Temple, left to do other chit, got distracted on the way to that chit, and then got distracted away from that.
This is gonna be a long ass game.
Also, this can potentially take WW from my personal top spot among Zelda games. Botw didn't but this just might.

It’s good. 26 shrines down, on my way to first “dungeon”. Did you find it improved over the divine beasts?

For me, it isn't just the building, but the everything. The caves, the underground and sky, more emphasis on story, and of course the new abilities. I feel like I have ADD when I play, because I can never just focus on the one thing I set out to do.
How far into Totk are you? I feel like if you didn't like Botw, you probably aren't gonna like Totk, but there's a chance you will because Totk is better in basically every way.

Do me a favor and never compare an open world Zelda game to the Avengers storyline ever again.

I’m glad this forum has a gaming section cause I can express my opinion without receiving death threats etc like on that ****gy Reddit site
I put my thoughts on the game in a spoiler tag here, not cause I’m spoiling the game, but in case you don’t want to read some randos opinion of the game
——
Spoiler!
Overall I’d give it a 6/10 for a handheld, maybe a 3/10 overall
IMO - this game is decent for a handheld game, but when it’s being compared against games on the PlayStation and other platforms I just am not seeing how it’s getting 10/10s or even 8 or 9 out of 10s
I played the first Jedi game that was recently part of the free game monthly bundle on PlayStation and enjoyed that far more than I am with this game. Other open world games like Skyrim blow this out of the water and that was released like a decade ago.
I really wish the Zelda titles had the “original” flavor to them. Linear story with dungeons with side quests for permanent optional upgrades. The shrines feel like a lazy alternative to side quests that fit into the story. (You can have one development team just put 150 shrines on the map, then have other developers implement the shrines independently with no worry about whether the shrines will interfere with each other, unlike with real side quests that need to fit into or even alter the story. The shrines are just a lazy and cheap cut corners method of putting in content). There’s no real dungeons like previous games had either. And the weapon system with breakable weapons is just annoying. I’d rather just have 3 non breakable sword like you’d normally have in a Zelda game
Also, I know Nintendo usually doesn't compete on graphics and hardware. But when they are doing an open world game like this, graphics matter a lot. And releasing this game on the absolute potato that is the switch, doesn't measure up to other games/systems. Frame rate, resolution, view distance etc

I'm only a handful of hours in but I don't see myself finishing this game tbh, will probably shelve it for now
I hoped BotW was a one-off but it's clearly not, if this is the way they gonna continue the Zelda series I'm officially OUT after more than 25 years of being a massive fan

So i ended up deciding to not buy it. This game was made to keep zelda relevant to kid's minecraft/roblox craze. Which is fine, but it's just not at all the game for me. Hopefully they go back to their roots with zelda at some point in the future.

I beat Elden Ring twice but I gave up on TotK after two temples. I just got tired of it, but a big reason for that is that it felt too samey to BotW for me. So if you haven't played BotW, all of this will feel new to you.
Also I'm pretty biased since Soulsborne is my favorite series of all time.

Two temples down. Gerudo got ass for days.
Favorite car is the 6 wheel all terrain vehicle.
Got the master sword. That sequence was hnnnng.
So glad the memories are easier to find now. I only found like 3 in BOTW.
Still very happy with this sequel.
