Driving through historic CHICAGO hood... (pics)(neat)

EAST and WEST Garfield Park

Most of the hood was settled by first/second generation Irish and some Germans.

By 1920, the neighborhood had 56,269 residents with Russian Jews and Italians joining the early Irish and German residents. By the 1930s, Italians displaced the Irish and became the largest ethnic group in the area

When I visit Chicago, I stay in the downtown area (e.g. Magnificent Mile, Millenium Park) and venture outside during broad daylight hours only. I don't go in GTA-looking areas like this

My Ex's dad lived on the South Side. We would visit him once a year for the 5-6 years we dated. Some sketchy arse places. Her step mom was selling coke out of the house, srs.

One day we had to take him to the VA, he had serious health issues. I remember rolling up to a red light and he yelled "don't stop, don't stop, you do not stop for any reason in this area if you are white"

We made it there and back. I'll never go to Chicago ever again. Fook that place.

The hood next door to this is Lawndale (basically the same) and that's where they shot Shameless

They're outside because it's nice outside and 5 people live in the downstairs, another family lives upstairs. Hell that's how my dad grew up in the 50s and 60s. Streets upon streets of duplexes. As soon as he could he moved to the burbs where people outside were kids.

there was a great video some time back with some black guy walking home through the hood with empty PS5 box. He got "robbed" multiple times (like people would come out of their house to rob him of that empty box).
