Story time:

When Israel was forming their independent state, they asked the Vatican for approval. The Vatican told them they would give their blessing under 1 condition:

Israel had to perform a mock re-trial of Jesus and overturn the verdict. Obviously Israel told them to shove it, and the rest is history...

Now for those who say that never happened, there has never been a Jewish state delegation at the Vatican since that supposed incident...
