Hulk Hogan And Mick Foley Trade Barbs In Old TSN Interviews

Hogan on his own training routines: “I would probably say I’ve trained more in the last week than Mick Foley’s trained in the 30 years. I went ahead while Mick Foley was sleeping and eating cheeseburgers and M&M’s. I was in the gym working out. I work out two hours a day. I’ve been doing it for 30 years … Now, nothing against Mick Foley, I didn’t have to prostitute my body and throw myself over the coals and into the fire and glass to make a dollar. I decided to train and go another way.”

Foley on his own status and approach to wrestling: “He’s never wrestled with me. I think if you ask guys like The Rock and guys like ‘Stone Cold’ if I was in shape when I wrestled them, if you ask Shawn Michaels was I in shape when I put in 27 minutes with him in 1996, I think they’d say I was in deceptively good shape … But for Hulk Hogan to say that, I think it is a lie, and I think it’s kind of cruel. And I think if Hulk Hogan were to have wrestled me in his career that he would sound more or less like a whiny girl in a porno film … He’s a great entertainer, but at the same time, you didn’t have to apologize to your friends for watching a Mick Foley match.”

As much as I don't like Mick Foley now because he's a turbo-Liberal, Hulk Hogan wasn't exactly an athletic performer in the ring. More showroom muscles than anything.

It's like this.

Hogan could make a stadium explode by pointing and waving his finger. Three punches, cupping his ear and dropping a leg.

Foley to get the same reaction would need to jump off the cell wrapped in barbed wire and land on a bed of live C4.

Yeah, but the beef is about athletic training and ability.

Hogan's physique was his character. He looked like a superhero. In Rocky III, Thunder Lips wouldn't have worked if he wasn't big. That's was the whole point.

Compare that to Austin, who was in many ways bigger than Hogan. He had a decent physique, but it definitely wasn't among the best for his time. Didn't matter. Wasn't his character. Same with Foley.

Hogan was pretty agile for his day. Wrestling at the time was a lot slower than what we see today. The guy was like 6'7 and nearly 300lbs. He put the work in the gym to look the part of his character.

Foley was just the fat kid on the playground who was willing to do dumb stuff to get kids to like him.

Agree, Austin was much more than a body, but go back and look at Austin -- dude was jacked to the gills, just bulbously massive even for his time (with freaks like HHH or giants like Undertaker). He never looked small in the ring with anyone sans Big Show.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

His triceps at the time were larger than footballs.
