My Manager just quit.......and spilled the beans. My department is Fooked.

Long story short......Our parent company is looking into outsourcing my department and a few others to India.

I work for a large commercial construction company, in the Controls department, I'm 1 of 5 for the company. I manage the budget & schedule and currently have 3 projects totaling $310m in the Atlanta area....which is 70% of our companies current contracted work.

Manager called and told me he put in his 2 weeks today and "just to let me know" our parent company is really wanting us to cut down G&A cost and is looking into outsourcing to India.

Just for a comparison.......

With bonus I'll make between $116-$125k this year. The most expensive guy in India wanted $18k, average was $15k.

Im fooked.

It's his 2nd time doing it in less than a year. Last time he did it, they threw more money at him (which is what he actually wanted) and he stayed.

This time, he said he "sees the writing on the wall"

Companies naively thinking those ****** would be half as proficient as the specialists. Strong diversity hire mentality. You get what you pay for, chumps.

Somehow I doubt they're going to outsource projects that size to a ****** Schedules can make or break construction costs and have contractors walking off the job. They're gonna save 100k to gamble on 310m in projects? No way their margins are that tight.

Yea and 2 months ago they "changed our job descriptions" and now we have to visit the jobsite once/week to verify chit.

Apparently somehow our G&A cost across the company are around 7% and the parent company wants them under 4%. Truth is, we have too many overpaid people that don't contribute. They've been working on it and have consolidated some departments, fired a few Directors and Exec's but it's still not enough.

If they fired the 4 of us, kept the Manager and hired 5 from India, that's saving about $425k/year....not even considering if they don't have to pay benefits over there. could be closer to $600k
