Croc can't close it's mouth on the Shark with the exception of biting into a fin or tail.

Shark will close its mouth on the Gator anywhere. and it would be a fatal bite.

Shark is also way more mobile in water. Shark can swim to Gator's sides and bite into the Gator's ribs. it would be over.

The croc have more testosterone. I personally think a massive croc would destroy a shark.

Uh, yeah, no. I live in the most croc infested part of the world and seen some of those bad boys up close. I've seen some almost 8 metres long. That's like nearly 4 Shaquille O'Neals laid end to end. With skin literally like body armor, and the strongest bite force on Earth and can swim as fast in water as you can sprint.

It's received wisdom around here that you if you disrespect a croc, you are dead.

Sorry, but you put a regular gym douchebag up against a saltie, the croc would easily rip off his arms and legs and eat them in front of him. Evolution designed them to be the perfect predator.

Here's what a 1000lb GW looks like on land. I doubt even the biggest croc could close his jaw around any meaningful part of the shark other than its tail.

Now here's what a 2000lb GW looks like underwater. Remember they can grow upto 24 feet and weigh as much 2500lbs, compared to the biggest croc on record was 20 feet & 2000lbs

Once the croc is in the great white's domain...It's over.

Depends on the situation but if they ever met it would be the croc swimming in open ocean so the advantage here would be for the GW
But as they are both typically ambush predators it would be who ambushes who first in this scenario.

WRT to OP, though. I think crocodiles are OG predators but I'm edging towards shark just slightly, if the encounter is in the open ocean. Are we allowing for the shark to do the very unlikely thing of swimming inland to a crocodiles swampy natural habitat?

Environment is everything here. Crocodiles are so dangerous because of the death roll and it's mostly effective against land animals because they can easily rip off limbs and then drown their prey. But the death roll is far less effective on a shark, because they don't have limbs and you obviously can't drown them.

Although, a shark needs to move to breath, so the croc might rip off the fins making the shark immobile which would effectively "drown" it that way. But the croc doesn't have the intelligence to know that, so I dunno. The shark's skeleton is made of cartilage, so it is very vulnerable to crushing attacks and the croc has the most powerful bite force on Earth.

And the shark would have a tough time getting through the skin of a croc which is literally like body armor.

My final answer is context-dependent. In the ocean, I give the edge to the shark since it denies the croc the combo attack it needs to score most of its kills. In billabongs and inland watery habitats, the croc edges out since it denies the shark the speed and the croc can use land to its advantage too.

But either animal even if it wins, is getting majorly fukked over from the fight.
Back off, Warchild.

Seriously.
