I did, I said "I couldn't make xx, can we reschedule for xx day at around xx time?"

When they tell you a date and a time its not a suggestion they're telling you the time you need to be available. It doesn't matter if its 10am on a tuesday in the middle of your shift at your current job.

in this job market you should have been grateful to even get a call-back to schedule an interview. you goofed pretty big this time.

I doubt you'll get a response. They've probably already moved on to an alternative candidate for the position.

You can give it a shot though.

I agree their response is suggestive of an undesirable environment, but I don't want to go too far into the "fox and grapes" mindset.....

I would suggest they should be willing to work with you on scheduling, and at a minimum, email you back to let you know either way. I say this from the perspective of someone who does interviews and hiring boards. Good employees are not easy to come by and people do have life issues. I would have rescheduled you no problem. I imagine many would.

I doubt that should be the expectation though. If personal issues are interfering with your ability to be reliable already, that can be suggestive. I could easily understand someone using this alone as a deciding factor to not hire. They should tell you though. Some companies have a policy where they do not inform people who do not get selected. They just let them figure it out after time goes by lol.

Not a good way to do business in my mind, but not illegal or anything.
