Cutting brahs: is the 10% weight loss plateau real?

-Starting my diet Jan 7th at 164 lbs. The goal was to drop 20 lbs to 144.

-Diet went well till about May. Drop/plateau, drop/plateau pattern, but it was a pretty consistent 1 lb/week average once I got everything dialed in.

-Weight loss fell to about 1/2 a lb per week once I got into the 140s, even after I adjusted for new lower maintenance cals

-Weighed in at 146.5 lbs today. So close but so far at my current weight loss rate.

-Feel like fukking dog chit, like worse than usual during cutting. Can't do anything.

-Have heard Redditors talk about a 10% body weight loss plateau, that when you get there, your body starts fighting back.

-Don't know if that's real or Reddit soycuck bullchit. Need input from misc brahs who have cut before.

If you feel like ****, then it’s time to stop before you mess up greatly and lose every bit of progress you’ve made.

I’d say up your calories by 500 ASAP and see how your body reacts. You will gain a couple of pounds at first because of the increased food consumption and possibly water due to more carbs, but it should stay steady after that.

Keep training hard, moving around etc and gauge your weight daily, adjust accordingly. Right now your priority is to keep the weight off, gotta do that whatever it takes. You worry about losing those few remaining pounds later (srs)
"The flowers bloom, then wither... The stars shine and one day become extinct. This earth, the sun, the galaxies and even the big universe, someday will be destroyed. Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

I've never heard of such a thing. The only plateau is when you're holding water and the way out of that is to either continue dieting or do a moderate refeed for a few days to allow your body to get rid of it.

100%. I could not have cut for this long if I had a non-bullchit emailing job or a family to be there for.

You look untrained. You can make a LOT of progress if you commit to it.

There's a big difference between needing to lose 100 lbs of fat compared to 20 lbs. Someone who doesn't need to lose as much is going to plateau a hell of a lot faster. With that being said OP, you're skinny fat and untrained. Stick to maintenance or slightly above and lift your ass off if you want to make any decent changes in body composition.

Good luck and keep at it!

Yeah OP I would definitely focus on building muscle, especially if you're not trimming up anymore. More muscle makes it easier to shed pounds later on, too.

True. But still went through the entire process of having a 6 pack. Got much leaner than I am now and didn't stop with "20 pounds" to go

That's great and congrats to you! It's not easy and staying consistent and focused is key so job well done. As for the OP he doesn't need to lose anymore weight. He needs to get under the bar and stay consistent if he wants to see any real changes. At this point he's just spinning his wheels.

yeah I agree with everyone brah you need to LIFT

Your body will be in need of more resources which in turn will be consuming more of what you have stored. Also with (eventually) more muscle and lifting heavy, your system will be in more demand of glycogen.

Right now you're limiting your intake and barely apply any expenditure (hence, 'little cardio')

you HAVE to increase your activity level and change your environment with enough consistency that will literally TRANSFORM your body to make itself compatible with the new stimuli: LIFTING and RUNNING, while INCREASING your protein intake because I am 99% sure that it's way below what you actually need

Damn, you need to start lifting/training. You're gonna need to cut to 115-120 to have abs with your current amount of lean mass. I'd say you're better off recomping than prolonging the cut

Problem is natty gym goers cut for too long, lose strength and mass and tank their hormonal system which then takes a long time to recover from.

Everything should be done on a planned basis. i.e: Cut for 10-12 weeks max, lose x amount of bf% or weight after initial water and glycogen depletion (starting point). Then either reverse diet, maintain a few weeks before cutting again.

You shouldn't burden yourself for too long lest your body starts shifting things around to deal with the prolonged stress you put onto it. Lot of folks get staggered or stalled in their training journey because they want things too quickly and deny the signs their bodies give them.

Again, talking about natty, not about folks that supplement with the correlating hormones that get altered when you're in a deficit for too long.

There's no point cutting if you don't lift / have any muscle to cut back to. You'll just look the exact same but slightly smaller.

The likely reason is that at 10% it's such a drastic change from your previous weight, so you begin to take your foot off of the gas a bit. I'm kinda there right now, and will slowly lose the remaining 10-15 pounds.
