M5C, E63S, CTS-V3 or keep what I have

I have the manual ATS-V sedan in sig which I love. Great car. Its got 60k miles on it, is plenty quick (numbers in sig, more mods than listed). I just got an offer for $41k for it. I'd be looking to get into something automatic, larger (kid on the way and back seat will be fine in the ATS-V for a car seat but any one over 4'5" going to have issues back there), ideally all wheel drive, and of course some more comfort & tech. It would also have the potential to be on par with where my V is currently (low 6's 60-130 id estimate).

My 3 used options are:
1. F90 M5C (quick w/ stage 2, motor trans tune, e mix, but thats about it before you in bent rod territory). I test drove a stock car, was underwhelmed somewhat.
2. E63S AMG (would try to get a wagon, IK nothing about the strength of AMG motors). Going to a dealership tomorrow that has E63 sedan and wagon, and a stock CTS-V tomorrow.
3. CTS-V3 (would have to have a cam and mods to even consider)

Im heavily leaning on keeping the V, because its such a special car but my list of reasons why it should go are:
1. Kind of high miles (not really for age, but its really at the top of the engines limits for power and not sure how it will hold up. I have a whole setup of upgraded rod and main bearings plus other hardware to strengthen the bottom end. Will go in if I keep the car.
2. My wife cant drive it, and refuses to learn manual. Would be nice to have a car we could both drive that isnt a snorefest (she drives a crosstrek)
3. Back seat is just terrible

Just looking for some outside input.

Audi S6? I've found various cars with 40k miles give or take and are in the 35k-45k range. It might not be a handling champ but a tune and downpipes can get you down to low 11's, potentially high 10's. Incredibly comfortable. I'm 6'4" with sciatica and the A/S6 are some of the most comfortable cars I've driven.

Definitely the M5, saw one today, looks amazing and is such a cruiser that will crush 99% of anything on the road. I dont like the direction the e63's took in the looks department though performance wise its there. Thats a good offer for the ATS-V, take it.

Another vote for the M5. Even with just boltons and a tune it will bury 90% of the cars on the street, esp from a dig.

I just test drove an E63S wagon that had downpipes and tune. Felt decently quick and sounded great. Thing was clapped for a clean title though, front bumper had some panel gaps (driver side fender and passenger hood) and it was dirty as ****. Had some carbon accents in the front that ALL needed sand and clear. They want $85k for it lol

Get the Wagon AMG breh. SLEEPER and rare. Everybody has a BMW More room. Mercedes builds way better V8s than BMW and Audi IMO. Way more reliable. A Weistech or Renntech tune puts you over 700hp. Also has drift mode.

I also vote for the Audi RS6 wagon.

Just the thought of you destroying mustangs/mopars in wagon is lulzy.

This. I’ve seen videos of this taking a 991.2 from a roll, with passengers, with relative ease.

Whatever you choose get a manual if you can. I wanted a manual M5 but got an auto because of the wife. "what if I need to drive it!?"

Its been 5 years and shes driven it TWICE. Id rather have gotten what I wanted and rented her a damn car when she needed it.

Im going for the E63s wagon for my next car so no manual on that either, but Im getting something else to track as well. M5 just aint fun on the track.

Personally Id keep the V. It will hold value WAY better just because its manual.

I'd get a BMW 540i xDrive M Sport (B58 3.0L single-turbo I6, absolutely incredible engine), put bootmod3 Stage 2 motor+trans tune on it for ~450 HP ~600 TQ, and call it a day. The BMW M5 is obviously cooler, but the I6 is worlds more reliable than the hot-V V8 and still extremely quick for a DD. In general, the sweet spot with BMW is their I6 engines... you really start straying away from what is appealing about BMW when you get outside the I6 IMO (srs)

I have driven a tuned 2014 Audi RS7 from turo and the thing was a fuking rocket ship, just comically fast in a straight line. A 540i would be nicer/newer/more practical for the same $ though

No clue why you'd stress these engines even more when they are already quicker than factory spec like the M5. Anyway the M5 is the coolest car of the 3. But if you really want to mod it, take something else because a modded BMW is gay as shet tbh. It's also not really made to reliably go beyond factory spec.

I would go v3, but I'm a die hard GM guy and have a close friend who works at a specialty Euro shop and highly advises against buying a bimmer or merc that's not covered under factory warranty (and will stay that way for duration of ownership).

Cam, FBO and e85 in a v3 easily gets you to around 750-800 rwhp, and as you know already those V cars are tanks when it comes to the drive train being overbuilt from the factory. I'm on the hunt for a built v2 myself at the moment, just sold a 750 rwhp 2014 camaro. I want to push into the 9 second range and the camaro was about maxed out on the stock bottom end and stock 6l80, plus the V has more room for the family.

I've been doing research on the e60 M5. There's a lot of guys popping up commenting how they have 120k+ miles. Last I checked, One youtuber was at 115k on original rod bearings.

From what I understand, Warm ups and oils changes are extremely important. If you get the 6 speed, you eliminate smg problems.

Been seeing similar responses , and the only way I would own one would be with the 6 speed.

Yes, if you have a BMW oil changes should always be on time. These engines run great but they have very little room for error. Treat them well and they'll be fine though.

Start modding them, use cheap oil, drive like a tard before the oil warms up, wait a few months for your oil change... You're fukked.

That being said, I'd still change the rod bearings after 100k on that E60.

I think we all have those cars that we really want no matter how absurdly impractical or unreliable we know them to be.

If you knew going in that you were going to have it torn down and have new rod bearings put in, then it’s a totally reasonable.

Sleeper 4 door manual with F1 high pitched V10 would be such a “smiles per mile” driving experience.

I feel like if I just tell myself going in that upon purchasing the rod bearings will be addressed it kind of opens up my options as I have seen more than a few very reasonably priced with higher mileage.

Well chit, there is a pretty clean looking 08 with 66K miles here local in Alaska for less than $20K. Lol, good thing it isnt a manual and not black interior. Would be tempting.

c63 e63 have for a long long time been virtually bulletproof

can't comment on the s63, those s class models are more like a space ship than a car. I bought an s550 recently, I feel like I bit off way more than I can chew with that thing. Not sure if i'm gonna keep it or sell it or what at this present moment. I'm tempted to offer to trade it for an e class so I can get a car with about 50000000 less computers in it.

you can put a renntech tune on that m278 engine and be pushing 700 hp. It'll 0-60 at 4.6 stock with a very tuned down engine.

I'm partial to mercedes, but cars are getting so damn advanced it's like no matter what you buy they're full of electronics and are going to break at some point. If i'm going to have troublesome cars no matter what, give me top of the line sh*t.
