They should bring back episodic games but do it properly.

Srs.

Half life tried to start off this trend but it was very poorly executed then kind of went away.

But with all these massive open world games these days I honestly think it's time to retry this approach.

The cyberpunk DLC coming was what made me think about this. As well as zelda tears of the kingdom.

Cyberpunk has a massive open world that isn't used that well, it also has a story that is rife for more than one DLC

Imagine a game like cyberpunk but every 6 months you get like a new "season", being a 15-20 hour story expansion where times moved forward a few months and new things are going on.

A lot of games almost feel like a waste being dropped, you finish it and it's done.

Fuk that.

They cant even release full games on time, what more episodic ones.

And I hate episodic formats in general, it works for tv ... but for games no thanks. And what you're describing sounds like live service stuff or it's not even feasible given the current state of the industry... You want dev's to drop a story expansion every 6 months? that sounds like more time, budget, hiring writers, voice actors to come in or something.

The only way you'd get what you want is for them to make the whole game and then just release it in chunks lol.
