Yes and no
Yes- cause anyone can do it and most people just do it to take photos to show to people online, Go into debt for it, only enjoy the hotels.
No- would be fun and interesting to travel solo to nice places if staying in/can afford nice hotel.
If I was rich and didn’t have to work I’d travel and just eat and drink at nice hotels all day

Yep, "culturally enriched" because you took a dump in a 3rd world drop toilet, life changing experience, take pictures of old buildings.

depends on what they do
most people travel to see a few land mark and stay in hotel resorts
no different than going to a hotel at their local city

I traveled extensively in my 20s and early 30s and I'd have to say yes. It's almost always more of a hassle than it's worth. It always seems great when you're planning it and have an idea in your mind of how it's going to be, but in practice it ends up being a pain in the ass. The devil is in the details.

we live in a virtual world now...a few clicks from seeing anything you want to see. you can see more now sitting in your undies on the couch than people 30+ years ago could see from spending decades traveling

Not overrated at all, if anything its underrated.
Full disclosure... Lifelong Alaskan, so travelling as much as possible through the winter months is a big priority to me to be able to withstand the long winters............
Dying with a blank passport and not exploring how crazy different the different parts of the US is sad. There is so much more to see and experience outside your city / state / country (still extensively explore those as well), that simply cant be replicated by watching a Youtube video or seeing pictures online.
Seeing and exploring new cultures and experiences gives a certain perspective on how small we are, how diverse the world is, and to not take myself and my place in it too seriously.
Greatly value travelling throughout western Europe a couple times now, various Central America trips, and throughout the US. Looking forward to seeing Japan / SE Asia, and Northern / Central / Eastern Europe.

I'd say no it's not over rated.
Went to Alaska last year. Just got back from a trip to Turkey and Greece about a month ago. Its something I'll remember forever. Better than just buying new chit with the money I spent to travel.
Going to the Caribbean next year and then an expedition to Antarctica booked for the following year.

So many sights are nothing but money-grabs tons of places to buy souvenirs. Seeing most things online is maybe 60% as satisfying as going there (esp museums). Unless nature. Better to go into nature.

Family vacations.

Family or vacations with friends are the best.
The solo traveling is wack. Forever alone and feels like a homeless dude sleeping in hostels and smelling like armpits 24/7.

I like travelling but I dont do it all the time.
It should be a treat.
It should be a treat.
