What was your biggest dissapointment as a gamer.
Mine was not getting Majoras mask for Xmas 2000
Id been playing OOT like crazy the last year, and I was trying to explain to my parents how I wanted Majoras mask and needed the expansion pack also, my parents were real like anti gaming, but would get me the odd game so I liked my chances.
I was obsessed with MM, I had so many magazines featuring it and even bought the guide book for it without having the game.
Well when the Xmas tree went up there was two n64 cart sized things under the tree.
Turned out it was OOT (again) and some other trash n64 game that I can't remember.
Back then in the UK Majoras mask was like 60 pound, and the expansion pack was around the same which as a 12 year old just wasn't in my wheelhouse, so Majoras mask eluded me until around 4 or 5 years later when I found some zelda gamecube collection second hand that had it on there.

I was expecting schit like the ending of Mass Effect 3, not a heartfelt story about childhood trauma.

Breath of the Wild. Such tedious gameplay (stamina, breaking weapons, time spent in menus, collecting seeds, making food), dull "dungeons." Terrible voice acting, boring soundtrack. Big, mostly empty map.

It's a tie between GTA IV & GTA V. I actually very much enjoyed GTA IV and consider it something of a classic, BUT it was just such a steep downgrade from the GOAT game of all time: San Andreas. This was doubly true of V, which felt like a weaker game than IV. V may actually have been an even bigger disappointment in a way, because I had gotten used to and thoroughly enjoyed V at that point AND I thought the Los Santos setting would mean a return to the greatness of SA. It instead turned out to be a soulless, watered-down story with a world almost entirely designed for online multiplayer & Cockstar's DLC grifting.
IV was a letdown because it wasn't as great as San Andreas, and V felt like a letdown because it wasn't as great as IV or San Andreas.

Diablo 3
Absolute maximum hype going into release and like an hour into the game I already hated it. Instant realization that Blizzard was just full on moneymaxxing and everyone who made D2 great was long gone.

In recent years I'd say The Outer Worlds. Probably the most disappointing Obsidian game I've ever played. It wasn't even as good as Bethesda's Fallout 4, which I consider the weakest from the mainline Fallout games.

Just awful level design with little exploration either between planets or within a map. Enemies were always clumped in groups of 4-5 evenly spread out across the map. Gunplay was super basic and I believe there weren't any throwables like grenades or mines. The male characters were all dumbasses and the female characters were all girlbosses. The only redeeming thing is it only cost me $1 for a gamepass trial to play back then lol.

The Playstation 4. Coming off a strong lineup of racing games and FPS it burned out rather quickly in that regard. We never got a proper new Gran Turisimo until the PS5 released with the game releasing on that as well, the Motorstorm developer quickly folded after Driveclub didn't live up to expectations, and the Killzone developer switched over to those lame Horizon games. In the end the PS4 was a console that failed to deliver in the way of exclusives.

Too many, but the 1st major one was DKC3 (snes), right after the masterpiece that was 2
Quake 4
Unreal 2
Bloodrayne 2
Crysis 2
Deus Ex 2 and MD
Many more
The annoying thing is, the publisher after making a chit sequel goes "okay no one wants to play that style of game anymore, can it altogether."

I'll add another one: No Half Life 3.
The most anticipated game of all time, never to materialise. Thanks Greedy Gabe

it tarnished my love for the franchise which has been my favorite ever since I was a kid (although I have to admit it has been dropping ever since the post Gamecube era)

Probably a tossup between Witcher 3 and God of War. Terrible clunky combat mechanics in both. Basically graphic novels with terrible gameplay. Witcher was more like a live action porn simulation and God of war a baby sitter simulator.

I had it as well, when I was expecting a typical zelda game I was dissapointed, but when I put it down and came back to it later with no expectations I ended up loving it.

I've had a lot of disappointments. My greatest one is how long TES VI is taking, 17+ years (2028 or later release).
In terms of games that I was hugely excited for but flopped, Battlefield 2024. I generally do good research and purchase games carefully, but preordering this one was a major mistake.

But I think it's pretty obvious games today sell way more than older games period, gaming is exponentially more popular then it has ever been, all games are selling more than they have thru history.
Halo 1 sold 4 million copies in 4 years.
Halo 5 sold 5 million copies in 3 months.
Show me anyone who thinks halo 5 is better than halo 1
The sales numbers game isn't really a genuine way to compare old Zelda games to new ones, there's hundreds of millions of more people interested in video games now.

Bioshock Infinite.
I thought it could exceed the first 2 games but it was complete and total garbage. I still get mad thinking about it to this day.
