I feel there are a number of subconscious existential psychological phenomena taking place that give us the desire to celebrate things like this.

On the surface, and as a hardened man, I agree. The chit is stupid, who cares? If there is any feeling, it would probably me more of a sarcastic "great, now I have to hear this thing all day".


Watch women when they talk about their kids growing up with each other. You ever been with one while they run into an old friend they haven't seen in a while and they are talking about how much each others kid has grown and "where does the time go".....

It is a sad thing, the passing of time. The innocent becomes jaded, amazing friendships end as we settle in our own little worlds, and while none of us say it out loud, we all know we are simply waiting for our turn to die. And each passing moment is a moment closer to that time. Those kid's first words very well could be that mom's last first word ever.

I think it is important to celebrate things with people. We don't have a lot in this life, and it is already gone.

Not for us. Not because I appreciate it, but for them. For the moms, and the kids.

I hate celebrating my birthday. I do it for them. And that brings quite a bit of enjoyment out of it for me. Recommendation.
