This. I rarely check my phone at reds so I’m just looking around the intersection and 9 times internet of 10 every single one of these dumb fuks has their heads down staring at a screen. Then the light turns green and you have to beep to get their attention to go.

Well one time I saw a woman in the other lane literally scrolling TikTok on her dash mount as we were driving down the street srs so it could be worse.

I honked at some sloot that wasn't going when the light turned green and she sped off. When she was about 100ft in front of me I saw her stick her middle finger out of the window lol.

Yeah it's pretty stupid. Some guy actually got out of his car at mcdonalds one time because I honked at him. I was a little drunk and I almost got out with the baseball bat I keep in the back seat. I'm glad I didn't.

Sometimes I text, not too often but I guess frequency doesn’t matter. And most times my music is too loud. Not outside the car, stock system. I mean it is nice with subs under the seats and stuff, but it isn’t obnoxious outside of the vehicle. The way I listen to music could interfere with my ability to hear a horn or emergency vehicle siren.

Besides that, I have gotten in the habit of being an effective neighbor on the road.

Respectful, communicates with others, doesn’t take anything personal, road rage is non existent. No more than 5 over the speed limit. Always leave with plenty of time, make sure the car is safe for me and others, tire pressure, wipers, fluids, etc. First aid kits and fire extinguishers in all vehicles. Standard location, easily accessible.


I make an active attempt to be the most courteous driver I can be. I like to pretend my neighbor is in every vehicle. Older guy, the man I want to be when I grow up. I am so lucky to be able to learn from him and have him as a neighbor. Another story lol. Anyway, he is a mentor of mine and I absolutely love him. He is extremely patient and understanding of human behavior. If he saw me have road rage against someone, he would address it. Assertively and effectively. But he would also understand we are all limited in our abilities to be “perfect” al the time. I would beat myself up way more than he would if he was disappointed in me.

So I pretend he is in every single vehicle around me.

By courteous, I don’t mean I let everyone cut me or anything. Stick to the rules. That is the only way to do it.

When it is my turn to go, I ****ing go. I am not gonna stand there all stupid like no one has been at a four way stop before and there isn’t any reason to violate the standard procedure. I have no idea why people feel the need to be “polite” here and wave other people on out of sequence. The polite thing to do is the follow the procedure we have all learned and were tested on to get our license.

I already know this will happen to me again in the future. I am expecting it. So it will not surprise me which can prevent the emotional response.

Being a good driver requires quite a bit of effort outside the vehicle. Especially with personality traits like maturity and decision making abilities.
