If you're physically active and sweating it out several times per week, salt is perfectly fine. In fact you need it to prevent cramping.

Its the people that overindulge in it and dont exercise that have issues.

in terms of taste and how it has the potential to raise bloodpressure they're exactly the same, but sea salt/pink salt does have trace minerals that iodized salt doesn't have.

I put half a teaspoon of salt in my water for my workouts if I'm fasted, then after my workout I'll have another half teaspoon in water. If I've eaten before I don't bother. Only started it in the last month or so but I do feel good. Not sure what effect it has but I think I read somewhere a while back it's good because it replaces the minerals lost from sweat.

Blood pressure is as good indicator. I have very low bp and can load up on salt. If it’s high, cut it pack. From a pure health perspective though, I prefer Himalayan rock salt.

I think a few years ago some official government health agency said salt is safe to consume for most people. I remember reading that.

There is a cancer diet, I believe it is cancer diet, which say salt is to be avoided as consuming salt can interfere with potassium in your cells. This popular cancer diet though doesn't seem to work all that well.

Was reading a month or two ago about a French doctor who would cure many ailments in dogs by bleeding most of the blood out of the dogs, and then replacing it with unrefined sea salt, matching the blood lost. According to the doctor the dogs ailments would go away.

Guess no humans signed up for his sea salt water treatment though.

Around 100 years ago they began refining salt. This made commercial salt free flowing and a nice white color. Natural sea salt is a grey color that does not flow well. The problem is, according to some health officials, is that sea salt has many other minerals in it. Due to refined salt, we are now missing important minerals in our diet. I suppose it is similar to the whole wheat verses white bread argument.

You hear all these stories about it so I thought I would try an experiment.

For starters I am a pro salt guy who eats quite a bit of it daily. I like the taste and dont believe propaganda.

That said I did give it a try because I was curious about blood pressure and all that.

Switched to a low soduim diet.

You can eat as much salt as you like but should increase potassium to make it about a 4-1 ration potassium to salt so I did that too.

I tracked everything I ate and was meticulous about it.

Result was my blood pressure lowered a bit but I also gained about 10 lbs of fat. Felt weak and tired all the time and generally felt like I aged about 10 years as far as working out or doing anything.

Switched back to my normal higher salt routine and almost instantly felt better, stronger and just myself more.

I think the whole low salt thing is a trick to make people fat and unhealthy. Get them hooked on prescription drugs.

Since people are discussing Blood Pressure here, almost every single doctors office in the US measured it wrong.

You’re supposed to be fasted, and in a restful position for 5 minutes. Everyone knows that, but you’re also supposed to have the cuff at heart level, fully supported and palms up, back has to be supported, and legs cannot be crossed. Each of these things being wrong can result in a slight increase in BP reading, and when you factor that almost all nurses and doctors just have your arm dangling, and it’s the first thing they take while you sit on a stool or the edge of a table your readings can easily be 20-30 points higher than actual.
