I got told Friday I’d be laid off for a few days so I decided to take advantage of the time off

I requested a ride along/day at the station with one of my local FDs …. This is it ….. I found it ….

This is by far the most exhilarating, rewarding and awesome job known to man

It’s like being on a crew of non scumy non trashy tradies who joke around with each other and always have each others backs

We did a EMS call of a tweaker getting stuck in a hvac duct at a gas station and one of a small house catching on fire (suburban dept)

There were aspects I liked better about being a cop from my ride alongs but the cons far outweighed the pros and I was told … just don’t do it

Being a fireman is 100x better lmao @ cops

So the fire service and stage handing are my passions for work it seems … glad I figured it out **** the construction trades

Lmao. I actually applied at the fire department years ago. The day I was leaving with my girlfriend I got the letter that I finally was accepted. I was like wtf! But I had to go with her. I actually have a union job now and now they laid us off. Working people need to get together and tell these ****ers to suck our call Cl!! We built this city!!

lol firemen get paid what target workers make brah. Plus you gotta scrape some dude off the side of the road every so often... a few of my buds are firemen and they do get alot of time to fuk around and do nothing, but they have to work like 3 different departments at the same time just to try to make a living wage.

It's hard af to get on a FD.

You gotta get EMT, then Medic, then your fire cert. Then you gotta compete over a handful of positions. Most people get stuck working private EMS which is soul killing.

Not everywhere. In smaller towns and rural areas yeah but not near medium or large cities srs.

The suburban dept I did my ride along with starts at 80kish base after you graduate the academy. As a cadet you get 65k. You’re guaranteed overtime because it’s 96 on 72 off. Also unlike cops you get to sleep on your shift if there’s not activity or calls by 12 am.

Other stations might be different and pay lower but seems awesome for such a rewarding job to me.


The city of San Diego for ex starts at 50k instead of 80k after the academy so ofc a lot of laterals transfer over to the suburbs for better pay and scheduling after awhile.

Most places in CA want atleast EMT and some volly hours towards your FF1 before taking you.

A lot of the big city departments are hiring rn because they lost a lot of guys with the jab mandates that are no longer in effect.
