That’s not how god works OP.
It isn’t some dude picking and choosing what to save on a micro level.
It’s closer to a macro level force. Harmony force. There’s always a counter force of anything so that is chaos but harmony has to wipe it as that’s the default of our world.

Religions are just stories, albeit there's likely a lot of truth to them, and wise teachings inside, they can not solve the question in the Op, unfortunately.

Free will is the usual defence for this bit. It fails because there's very little evidence of genuine free will in the religious sense (by that I mean, not entirely spurred on by the interaction of your genes and environmental conditions, neither of which you control). And given that humans and other animals are basically pre-programmed already (our social behaviours and tendencies are deeply instilled in us through millions of years of evolution, and they generally lead us to be good and caring) there's no reason to think god couldn't have programmed out some of the really undesirable behaviours completely rather than mostly.

When it comes to trying to explain natural suffering (not caused by humans) the godcels struggle even more, and the answer always is a variation of god working in mysterious ways.

A better question is if God is real how can he expect people to believe in him with zero evidence and then damn them for eternity for not believing or having “faith”, even if they’re good people? Sounds like a piece of chit to me.
