Why didn't Cody's mom ever take him to speech therapy?

For the lisp. We get it, as a kid, he was just repeating what he heard from his dad. But why did his parents think it was okay? Didn't he have a speech teacher in elementary school? If not, why didn't his mom take him to a speech therapist when dad was on the road? His dad was highly successful in the 80's and early 90's so I'm sure it wasn't the cost. I know they eventually fell on "hard times" but not when he was young enough to still have it corrected. Strange, really no one talks with a lisp. Yeah I'm sure Cody will justify it now because its part of his dad, but his parents should have taken action to fix it.
