It's not that I feel poor, it's just that it's so much worse than it used to be. Rice Krispies for $7? Eggs for like $8? It's stupid and it's all because of incompetence by gov't.

Nope.....just saving/investing less every month. My wife and I basically live off of less than 1 of our salaries.

Bank in 2020....You're approved for a Max Mortgage of $753k.
Us....Cool, we found a house for $219k that we love.

And we've both gotten significant raises in the last 2 years.

I don’t feel poor, I actually kinda like the inflation now that I’ve structured my life to account for it. Everyone around me is slowly struggling more and more and I get a sense of joy from watching people who were kinda being chitbags during the last couple years getting humbled a bit.

I resisted a lot of pressure to “keep up with the Joneses” during the last few years from people that I knew weren’t worthy of taking advice from.

Now I’m on the verge of being paid back for my frugal behavior.

Eggs in my area are still relatively cheap ($4.80 for 36 XL Grade A, or $0.13 an egg). And 3lbs deli rotisserie chicken is still $5. So if you pick out these things you'll be saving money while still eating lean.

But yes. I anticipate grossing between $160k-170k this year and even though this is great, it feels like it's barely enough to get a house I'd want, even after saving 2-3 years for a hefty down payment.

Tax brackets need to be adjusted during times of obscene inflation, in my opinion.

The positive news for me was about the time all this was ramping up I got divorced and realized I was spending about 1/4th of the money we were spending so I actually feel like I have alot of extra money these days lol.

So many things have doubled or more since 2018/19.

- regular haircut or a pedicure $30-ish > $60-ish

- oil change $30-ish > $60-ish

- jar of mayo $3 > $7+

- fast food meal $3 - $6 > $10 - $15

Just saw a clip. Some people from Victoria, TX [not a big expensive city] said they went to their regular spot for lunch which used to always be busy. Said only one other table had diners. $38 before tip for 2 X burger/fries specials and 1 iced tea.

Yup 300k can "feel poor" in NYC too depending on the lifestyle one wants.

My Whole Foods orders have really shot up. I haven't "felt poor" in decades but I can understand how some folks must be feeling the pinch. Even scrounging for basic necessities not Whole Foods spending.
