Hulk Hogan had one of the most iconic wrestling matches of all time against Andre the Giant, but he says that the late legend didn’t like him at first and made that clear. Hogan recently appeared on This Past Weekend and during the discussion he talked about how he was scared of Andre due to the giant’s animosity toward him. On not laying out matches with other stars: “I could wrestle anybody. I never talked about a match, except one time with The Rock and we didn’t do anything we talked about.”

On working with Andre: “[Andre] scared me to death… The hardest thing for me was — the first 8 or 9 years — he didn’t like me at all and tortured me. When we got in the ring, he showed me how much he didn’t like me.”

On Andre punishing him for breaking kayfabe: “I made the mistake of bringing a flight attendant to the Capitol Center in Washington. and I put her first row and I didn’t tell Andre… He heard her say ‘Come on, Terry!’ and he figured out she was with me. And he about killed me. Took me back in the ring … he tied the bottom and the second rope and put my neck in it, took his size 27 boot … almost broke my neck in the ropes. Then I had those yellow tights. He picked me up like a damn stork, with my balls and my ass hanging out and carried me around in front of this girl with my junk hanging out.”

Roussimoff has been unofficially crowned "the greatest drunk on Earth" for once consuming 119 12-US-fluid-ounce (350 mL) beers (in total, over 41 litres [72 imp pt]) in six hours. On Letterman, January 23, 1984, Roussimoff told David Letterman he drank 117 beers. When Letterman asked if he was drunk, Roussimoff said he couldn't remember because he passed out. He also said he quit drinking beer 14 months prior to this appearance on Letterman.

On an episode of WWE's Legends of Wrestling, Mike Graham said Roussimoff once drank 156 16-US-fluid-ounce (470 mL) beers (over 73 litres [128 imp pt]) in one sitting, which was confirmed by Dusty Rhodes. The Fabulous Moolah wrote in her autobiography that Roussimoff drank 127 beers at the bar of the Abraham Lincoln Hotel in Reading, Pennsylvania and later passed out in the lobby. The staff could not move him and had to leave him there until he awoke.

In a shoot interview, Ken Patera recalled an occasion where Roussimoff was challenged by Dick Murdoch to a beer drinking contest. After nine or so hours, Roussimoff had drunk 116 beers. A tale recounted by Cary Elwes in his book about the making of The Princess Bride has Roussimoff falling on top of somebody while drunk, after which the NYPD sent an undercover officer to follow Roussimoff around whenever he went out drinking in their city to make sure he did not fall on anyone again. Another story also says prior to his famous WrestleMania III match, Roussimoff drank 14 bottles of wine.

An urban legend exists surrounding Roussimoff's 1987 surgery in which his size made it impossible for the anesthesiologist to estimate a dosage via standard methods; consequently, his alcohol tolerance was used as a guideline instead.

i watched the Theo Von interview. nice interview, Hogan was super pleasant. Theo's bit about Jesse Ventura seemed to go right over his head though, which was weird to me

I'll never really understand why Hogan feels the need to exaggerate (or just lie) about his life's story. He's traveled everywhere, he was at a time one of the most recognizable people on the planet. He's the Babe Ruth of the business. Just be you, man. It's more than enough

Hulk is just living the gimmick brother.

He's in the same vein as Dusty Rhodes and Flair, it's their whole life.

It is standard practice in wrestling anyway-the ring steps weigh 500 pounds, even though the guys life them pretty easily. Ladders weight 300 pounds, steel cages are 40 feet heigh, 6 foot 2 guys are 6 foot 6, 180 pounders are 240 pounds etc.

Pat Tanaka is even worse than Hogan-he did a ridiculous interview for a newspaper than now seems to be gone from the web. From memory he said he earned a million dollars for Wrestlemania 6 where he worked a mid-card tag match, was WWF champion, was setting up rings aged 11 & being paid a grand a time to do it, had million dollar contracts when he was 18-even though he didn't debut until he was 20 & would have been earning more than guys like Race, Flair, Bockwinkel & Hogan if he had.

Hogan is GOAT brother. I would never not believe a word he says.

Andre struggled with Akira Maeda in their match that turned into a shoot iirc.

Andre may have not like Hogan at first, but once the Hulkster scoop slammed that 9 foot tall 1,500 lb giant, in front of 90 million fans at the Superdome Andre had no choice but to pledge allegiance to Hulkamaina. After repenting and accepting the Training the Prayers and the Vitamins, the big guy upstairs took The Giant home.

Hogan is always working the gimmick man. It is just what he does. Always selling, always running the gimmick. Without Hogan and his typical cast of characters 85-90 there would be no modern day wrestling as we have it now.

Thought it was common knowledge his matches with Andre and Warrior were carefully plotted out and that's why they didn't go down as some of the worst WM matches ever.
