Just got quoted $500 to change oil, filter and spark plugs or something. I asked the tradie what the hell a "tune up" is and he said changing the spark plugs

so I looked it up on youtube and did in about 30 minutes and spent about $50 on supplies

mind is blown that they can actually make a living doing this

My wife told me she would get these routine "tune ups" every so often. I had never gotten a tune up in my life and didn't even know what it was. Literally a few dollars worth of spark plugs they charge $500+ to replace lmaoo

I feel like specialization plays a bigger role than value of time tbh, there are plenty of megamoggers who enjoy doing things they could pay others for because it's interesting to tackle new challenges and learn

But when you start getting into complex stuff and skilled trades, it just makes more sense for one person to specialize in something and do that thing really well and efficiently rather than everyone else try to do it sorta ok

Go watch a video on framing a house and give it a shot … soo much chit goes wrong and you have to improvise and figure it out on the fly … takes years of experience to be good at being a solid tradie … some of these tradie guys blow my mind with how spatially smart and mechanically inclined they are and how they can think quick in a garbage physical environment

How about having a junction box at 78" elevation with another at 102" and 60" of length and 24" off the wall. How about getting a 3/4" piece of emt into a 3/4" hole

Add on top of it, I've had to change lights in a warehouse leaning over a rail 20 feet down with 1 hand while electricity is live. That's another factor
