That's not a bad gig. Get to drive trains, see the city on the daily, sit in a small "box" and have minimal human contact by radio. Sounds like the perfect Misc job.

That's a poverty salary in NYC. You'd be living in some sh!t hole like Harlem just to be able to afford rent, otherwise you'll be commuting 1+ hours every day in traffic just to live in a semi-affordable sh!thole. The tristate area is a garbage place to live, thank God I left. (Super Ded fkn Srs)

That was my dream job in 2018 when I was 21 years old. I had a career path written out srs. I was going to become a conductor for a short line railroad (Genesee & Wyoming) then bank some RR retirement, get experience and become an engineer after 5 years so I could drive the trains. It would’ve been fkin awesome. Then longer term (10 years or so) I would use those skills to work for an urban transit company like the MTA because I’m a city dude at heart.
Amtrak was my backup plan, I just didn’t want to deal with the general public.
Probably could’ve retired at like 45 with good benefits and a fulfilling career traveling and doing cool chit. Instead cold feet about being on call got the best of me, so I stayed hunched over at a desk and solidified my future as an officel loser.

Used a Nerdwallet calculator. Assuming she actually lives in NY, she makes anywhere from what would be ~$34k - ~$89k in Florida. New York has such a wide range of CoL it's crazy srs.
The video didn't mention anything about a 401k match, but either way the video mentioned she gets a pension.
Apparently many pension plans have CoL / inflation adjustments, but by and large the pension plan doesn't keep up properly, and after 15 years of retirement the average pension plan provides 7% less income for this reason.https://www.oecd.org/pensions/How-in...s-pensions.pdf

the MTA benefits are probably the best thing about the job. Great healthcare, holiday pay, vacation. She'll have a great pension, retirement. Great job security also. Shes pretty much untouchable unless she royally ****s up.
