How to become a Software Engineer? (SRS)
I want better pay and working hours.
Currently living that night shift 30K/year life and have decided it’s not what I want for the next 40 years
Already started learning Python and following CS50. Anything else you brahs recommend to break into this industry?

Get an online bachelors, I recommend Computer Science over Software Engineering. Some universities like WGU you can do in 1 term (6 months), if you do all the transferable courses elsewhere (3 months) and prestudy (2 months). Total = 11 months and maybe $8k
You will need to know some coding already (Java+JavaFX, Python, C++, SQL)
Before even starting, I would take a Calculus 1 course somewhere and see how you do. If you can't easily score 80% or more then I would look towards IT instead.

you have to work for 3 months to qualify
might as well switch jobs if you only make 30k

If you don't have a CS degree already, don't bother.

The "I want to be a software engineer because I want a change in life" bucket is overflowing with morons that think they can make it after studying a 6 week bootcamp video course from some grifter.
The market is oversaturated with unqualified people.
If you're serious, get a CS degree from a reputable school, and get an internship.
It's basically impossible otherwise.
To put it in perspective, I work as a principle software engineer, which is higher than a senior. We get hundreds of applicants for level 1 positions. Most are stupid as chit.
On the other hand, we barely get enough applicants for a senior position. Most know their worth and don't end up joining our team.
TL;DR It's a tough market and a tough career path. Know what the fook you're getting into.

I've seen a girl get into programming with an English degree as her education. Not sure how she did it, but she's a pretty blond. So if you're not that, it might be tough for you without a degree.

Don't bother with a degree imo. As someone else mentioned, the market is saturated with people who are "self-taught" with 0 experience though. My advice would be to start in operation side, get a few certs (like AWS Developer) and learn a programming language (Python would be my recommendation). Then you could probably land a job as a cloud engineer. After a year of two of professional experience, could probably hop into SWE if that's what you prefer.

Ok I went on her Linkedin and saw what she did. She got some 1 year diploma from some online web development school and got into programming that way. Good luck OP.

Move to India and be poor. Learn software engineering. Get hired by Google etc to immigrate for software engineering job at 1/3 the pay they would give an American. Das it mane.
