Each Disney movie had a different undertone to it. Lion King - family and learning to rule. Pinocchio - Don't lie and run away from your troubles. Sleeping Beauty - There's more to a person than just being beautiful. Bambi - Animals matter too. Pocahontas - Different people are still people. Etc..

They're all cool in their own way. That said, The Black Cauldron is one of my favorites along with Fern Gully.

Other than brother betrays father for son to avenge, there is little to no similarity.

That storyline has existed since BC.
